Volvo TV Product Placement and a Gritty Mystery

Post by BlackBart »

If you want a good dark police mystery series, and you like seeing Volvos in every scene, check out "Young Wallander" on Netflix. It's essentially a prequel to the famed Wallander books and shows (some in Swedish with subtitles, some British), where Our Hero Young Wallander is a patrolman just getting moved up to Detective and making mistakes.

The quirky part of it being a prequel is that it's contemporary, not in 1960 or whatever would have been Wallander's youth.

And it is literally FILLED with new Volvo's. (It's in Sweden, so...) He's a lowly new detective, but has a brand new XC with lush caramel leather interior. The boss drives a new Volvo. One rebel co-worker drives an Audi TT, until the second season when they yanked that trash! The police cars are those bright white / yellow / blue XC wagons with fog lights on the front. He drives into a random housing block to check on a bad guy and every car in the lot is a Volvo. The bad guys who stick out drive pimped out Mercedes or supercars. I think there's some corporate backing of this series if I had to guess!

I've always noticed that the series " Monk " has his assistant driving a Volvo wagon. Then just today when watching a rerun, they had someone hit with a .....Volvo. I mean full screen front view of the grill before BLAM. So two Volvo's in one show.
Maybe the producer or someone in charge had some kind of a thing for them.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

I annoy my wife while watching movies at home by calling out 'Volvo' when a get a glimpse of a Volvo. I call out 'Mercedes' also. Movies filmed in Europe have lots of both.
