I just noticed a section at the bottom of each post linking to similar topics. Is this new as of a few days ago? It's interesting to see it resurface old topics which I had forgotten about.

Yes, I took it out a year or two ago because of speed issues (pageload times). I think it's fast enough now to overcome that, so back in it goes.

Do you think five similar topics is too many?

At first, I didn't like similar topics, feeling they were a trap to trick people into staying on the site. After reading a few posts, they led me to a post of mine from five years ago which I forgot about and might be useful. Seems they can cause more good than harm.

Five seems good. Gets 3-4 unrelated and 1-2 truly helpful, related posts.

It does have a way of reviving old threads, as most dont look at the thread date. Occasionally someone gives advice on a 5 year old "HOw to do I get this off?" thread.

But, on a positive note that provides more opportunity for a nice play on words reply, too.

I had two recent instances where Similar Topics surfaced highly relevant threads to the one I was writing in. I have a new respect for the feature. Thanks for enabling it.

Is similar topics restricted to the same Forum? In the past, I’ve sometimes been led into a new forum where repairs and parts are different....

Probably more helpful to restrict it to the same forum. Sure, some P80 and P2 info can be shared, but it would be significantly less useful to see P3 and 240 related content.
