1999 v70r M58 transmission rebuild

Post by InsertPunnyName »

I have a 99 v70r with a swapped m58 transmission that is currently grinding into 3rd gear and occasionally pops out of 2nd gear when engine braking. Is there any way to get parts to fix the transmission or a shop in Washington that has the ability to repair it?

Are you 100% certain it is a transmission issue? Have you checked your engine mounts, especially the one under the RH by the crank pulley, as well as the upper and lower torque rods?

I have not, I believe it is an internal issue because if I double clutch and rematch into 3rd gear, it doesn't grind.

Check them because if they are bad the whole engine and trans will move! Hopefully it is not a baulk ring or bad bearing.

I would not rule out a release bearing issue or simple clutch issue based on that.

They only resources I have found for rebuilding an m56 or m58 we’re in the UK. The transmission is made by Borg Warner.

I looked at all of the mounts, none of them look terrible, but a few have small cracks. That's probably what's causing the second gear issue because it's so infrequent. The clutch starts to engage where it should near the middle of the travel, so I don't think that is the issue either.

To add on to that, the car doesn't seem to have excessive driveline lash either.
