I assumed. I was mistaken.

My local guy says it’s ready to test. We’ll see how it responds. May end up shipping it off.

Hi all. You well prepared, but you lacked soldering skills. Don't worry, you didn't mess anything up, your person will fix the main board.

Follow the video on the first page and you will succeed. Chip outputs can withstand up to 300C for several seconds.

P.S. To prevent the soldering iron from overheating, connect it through a conventional dimmer. Don't feel sorry for the rosin. This will help against shorted chip pins. Good luck!

Reassembled and plugged it in this morning.

Random gibberish hieroglyphics on the screens, the needles all did a simultaneous twitch and returned to zero, airbag light was on but no others. Started right up, CEL is on, alarm went off (no remote unlocking available), and in just a few seconds there was a sudden jerk/drop in the idle, and it returned to normal. It did the idle thing the week before I removed it as well.

So....
I'm off to Xemodex, or Unitech (also Toronto), or Automotive Circuit Solutions. I'm leaning towards spending the money for the expertise and warranty at Xemodex - it may need some chip replacements.

Very frustrated.

That’s serious board level surgery and it was a big reach to try that, kudos.

Cashectomy of the wallet. Money sent, packaging underway.

I have very little patience with cars I can't trust.

OK....it has finally arrived in Toronto at ZEE-moe-dex, they took a look.

First comment was that it has been removed from the housing. I thought they just wanted the PC board and it was already apart, so I wrapped it that way.

Second comment - it appears it has been tampered with and there is damage to the PCB. Yes, ok.

So, they offered to send me a replacement from stock, and mine becomes the core. It's an extra $100. I said yes.

They want to confirm it's in MILES, and what the mileage is. I said I don't remember checking it when I pulled it, but it's about 140,000. Can you determine the mileage without the cluster installed?

Do you have VIDA? If not, this might do the trick:

I have a "progress" report. First let me say the UPS tracking is pretty impressive - I got a beep and clicked on a map and he's three blocks away.

They sent me a complete assembled DIM with gauge pointers and plastic screen installed, instead of just the board I sent them. Easy peasy.

BUT.....I plugged it in and snugged the four screws, started it up, and here's the list I made and sent to Xemodex just now :

"1. The alarm is on and stays on - the siren went off, and the red warning light at the windshield stays blinking while the car is running.

2. The instruments are OUT - no tach, no gauge movement. NO backlighting of the DIM.

3. The info windows come on very dimly at the first key position, for a few seconds, then out.

4. At the second key position, the instrument panel warning lights come on brightly, and the ! warning light comes on.

5. The engine idle dives for a fraction of a second and then recovers on start-up. (What the hell is this?!)

6. Only the driver’s door window works - no others. NO auto door locking.

7. The sunroof does not work.

8. NO turn signals.

9. Wipers don’t return to rest position - you have to stop them manually with the switch. All other settings go the same speed.

10. No headlight flasher.

11. Headlight switch unresponsive - no parking light setting, etc.

12. No front or rear fog lights. No gas flap release. Lights on the switches are out.

13. CEL is on.

14. Overhead cabin lights do not work.

15. Horn works, radio works, A/C works.

I’d like to hear what we do next.
Thank you,"

I would pull it back out and inspect the connector(s). Make sure all the wires are in the connector(s) and not pushed back. Double check your fuses and make sure your battery is fully charged. Then re-install, but don’t put in the 4 securing screws. You may want to move it around to see if that changes things.
