I had to deal with this before, the shop where I brought the care sometimes always broke them. I have since cut off half of the tip so they don't break that easily.
For me they came out by drilling or using a very small extractor.

Unless you want 100% originality, a plain bolt is fine. Those pointy pins limit the rims you can use. I probably have a bunch of them as I always removed them. Now where they are......................?!

A bolt won’t work with a steel wheel as those don’t have a space for the bolt head. I ran into this when the snows went on

The Skandix link was posted earlier in the thread; the part is available from others, depending on geography.
The witness marks on the rotor - as well as the pic in our Gallic friend's avatar - seem to show an alloy wheel.
The 'click' you hear - if the wheel bolts are properly torqued - may be loose brake pads floating a bit too freely in the calipers, or the pads hanging up on the pins.
There is very little pressure on that locating pin; with everything properly torqued in place there will be no shear loads on the threads.

I have never had the problem you mention with steel wheels abscate. The 'stud' is basically the same size as an M6 bolt and head anyway.
Post 850 I don't think I have seen a car with the stud fitted ever.
I guess we have all had different experiences. Maybe it was the type of steel wheel you had??

It's clear that when the wheel is bolted correctly, the brake disc doesn't move. In my case, the brake disk moves "wheel out". So, this "issue" (small one but issue) must concern other parts of the brake system. The idea of foggydogg is interesting.

@ Neil If you buy generic steel wheels they may not have any hole at all for the centering pin, that's the basic issue.
@manovlov I suggest to start you remove, clean and grease the caliper slide pins. This should be a routine maintenance task in my experience.

Hi Eric, that was what I said. I have never had an issue with a Volvo rim. With aftermarket rims you are on your own!! Worst case you can remove the bolt altogether. It is only there to keep the holes in the rotor and the threaded holes in the hub aligned. It is as foggydogg said, the torquing of the wheel that holds the rotor in a sandwich between the rim and the hub.
If an aftermarket rim does not fit with a small M6 bolt, then it won't work with the stud either.
Manov, what foggydogg and Eric suggest in relation to the cleaning and greasing of the slider pins and making sure they are not worn is where to start. A small but silly thing to check is the rubber boots for the slider pins. If they are badly worn the caliper can move a little.
