That fence wouldn't stop a skateboard.

Do you happen to know anything about Laguna Seca? I've watched video from that course, and there's of course lots of old Americana racing lore about it... that one crazy left-right huge drop twist is famous. Did F1 ever race there?

Now that I've been poking around on the 'Net for F1 stuff Facebook is showing it in my feed because we live in a dystopian hell, but f-it, while I'm here I'll enjoy it. From FB:
XLV Grand Prix de Monaco FIA Formula One World Championship race 440 Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo, Monaco May 31, 1987 78 laps on 2.068 mile/3.328km street course
#12 Ayrton SENNA - Camel Team Lotus Honda - Lotus 99T Honda RA166E V6 t 1.5
Fastest lap: Ayrton Senna
Started 2nd and won the race.

Laguna Seca, one of the classics! Just inland from Monterey. The historics are held there during the Pebble Beach big shows. The Porsche Rennsport Reunion events are held there every 5(?) years. The factory sends famous race cars.

Yes, the red one is the famous 1970 LeMans 917....

That left-right drop turn is the notorious "corkscrew." So cool. They climb climb climb a long hill, twist left, and suddenly disappear into this hole that twists off the front.

The Alex Zanardi last lap dive bomb, 1996 -

Indycars run here, and it's really fun to watch. F1 never came here - not enough infrastructure or runoff areas.

They took out a long straight with a really fast left hand bend long ago - from 1 to 5. Too fast and dangerous. Now there are some twisties in an infield around a pond.

That's a great clip. The corkscrew photo from the top shows how crazy that elevation drop is... just nuts. Didn't Can-Am run there?

I feel like racing is just getting so danger-averse that it's becoming a bowl of no-passing mush. NASCAR, F1... I don't know about Indy, except that they race on boring ovals like most of NASCAR. I watched a NASCAR race about 7 years ago at LS or one of the American twisty tracks and it wasn't bad at all. I've been to the NASCAR Las Vegas 400 about a half dozen times and it's boring mush. I just went because a) I didn't have a kid, b) great time with friends in LV, and c) I was a single professional and had money to spend.

I'm 100% for in-car safety things, like F1 halo. Don't get me wrong on that aspect.

They try to even everything out so much that they might as well send each driver out with identical cars. Too many rules.

Kind of an MG old-school hot-rod build
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1950-mg-td-14/
The twin-cam rear axle and the pin-drive steelies are worth a small fortune.
And, of course, why wouldn't you ?

Heavily modified. Aren't those widened Dunlop wheels?! Or just steelies made to look like them? Blower(!)

Solid magnesium GTZ racing wheels. I'd be nervous about racing on 50 year old magnesium wheels, but I've never read about these breaking.
