Shame you can't reverse it as the other side looks like it has plenty of life left!

Not yet! Went to change the brakes on the driver front side today and the lugs were so tight I couldn't even loosen them with a 2 foot breaker bar and a floor jack! Even bent the breaker! So have to head to a tire shop and get them to loosen the damn things and hope they don't break a stud

30 seconds of propane heat on the lug bolt, then let it cool.

Anyway to do that without heating up the rim or will the rim just be fine?
Thanks for the tip!

Earlier in my childhood, when I still turned wrenches for a living, a guy around the corner from our shop who - literally - made parts for NASA, asked me to "look at the brakes" on his V8 Chevy Monza (Vega variant.) He had driven it so long after all the friction material wore off the pads that it had gone a little deeper than pictured here, and had exposed the cooling ribs, causing the puck to emerge from the caliper, draining the fluid from the system. That isn't what finally brought him to us; he had been driving on the handbrake so long the lining on those shoes finally wore out too.

The really scary part here was he made parts for NASA.

One of the Astronauts did point out they were riding on a rocket built by a series of low bidders.
I didn't want to dwell on the handbrake thing, I might know somebody who did that...recently...and visits this thread...on occasion.

Well, long overdue adding to this! A friend who lives way out of the city has a 99 V70XC with bad Nivomats but good boots. Asked if I knew where there may be used Nivomats. By chance 2 V70XC's came into PnP recently.

I went down to the yard and pulled the first set. Boots blown but looked ok. Later was pissed to find they had charged my $15/shock. Not sure why and they can't answer me why.

Anyway, noticed one had a bit of wear on the shaft through the boot so went back for some other stuff and looked at the other car. It almost looks like it had been sitting in a pool for a while. Pulled first Nivo and crusty but no marks on the shaft.

Pulled the other and it was REALLY crusty so left it, as I expected to pay $15 again. Naturally get charged $6 with seniors discount :D

Anyway brought home, pulled the lower mounts off all 3 and removed the boots to find both the originals have wear marks in the same spot. They are not leaking so they will be ok for now to get the car mobile again.

Took a flap disc to the rusty parts and decided to do the most crusty one last. Nearly 99% done and the blasted grinder slipped in my hand and naturally marked the shaft near the top. OH, gosh darn blankety heck I said in "engineering terms. That is $6 wasted!!"

Well other 2 were cleaned and painted with POR-15 and that is as good as they will get!

Almost made a major blooper on Shaggs head job. I could not get the 14mm hex over one of the cylinder head bolts so I tried a 15mm, which fit snugly. It promptly rounded the corners off the recessed bolt that you can’t get too easily. Ouch.

Luckily , I found the chaff that was hanging up the bolt, cleared it, and got the bolt out. It will be discarded.

Doh!

Unrelated. Don’t forget to take your RV towed vehicle out of park…,

I know a guy who forgot to chock his wheels, jacked a '99 V70 XC AWD 2.4T with plate CWG-#### up and didn't put jack stands under. Car fell on jack. Owner was irritated. Owner of jack likely was as well but was kind about it. Jack got bent =(

Moral of the story, always chock wheels or gravity will eventually happen.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
