Advice on buying a 2001+ V70

Post by stone36 »

Hey all,
I have a 94 850 wagon and in the next month or two am planning to upgrade to the P2 V70. What I am looking for ideally is an 04 V70 non turbo, with 40-60K on it, boosters and a third seat. I have read about a few of the common issues with the P2 cars, what concerns me the most is the transmission software (switching to neutral when stopped) in the 2001 model. How bad is that problem? There is a nice 01 in town here with 97K and boosters for $8,500 that I pass everyday...

Is there anything else that I should be looking for or aware of in the 01-04 range? Any advice is welcome.
Matt

Hi,
just brought myself a 2001 V70(140 bhp auto), moving from an 850. Have not experienced the neutral problem you quote yet, but my 215/55 tyres on 17inch wheels do rub on full lock. The ride is superb, the cabin quiet and relaxed and the a/c tremendous, the five speed auto is a relevation compared to the old 4 speed in the 850. I am worried that when something does go wrong I won't be able to fix it as I did with the 850, but that's true of any car that's post 2000. This is my third volvo and by far the most comfortable and luxurious yet, I just hope it will last as long as the last two ( they made 17 and 14 years old in my ownership before moving on to others)
Good luck, with whatever you buy

Continue to pass, do not stop.
01's have a ton of issues being a 1st year model including their transmissions.
That's too much anyway.
Plenty of 04's around but not many with boosters AND a 3rd seat.
If you're anywhere near the East Coast (US) and you want me to find you a good Volvo, contact me

If you're in the US that would be 160HP not 140.
Your tire size is wrong but it still shouldn't rub.
Have you lubed your steering stops? try that.
If that doesn't help. a pair of 5mm spacers should stop the rubbing.
Good luck, (you may need it)!

JRL,

where are you located, I am out west (utah) right now, but am from CT and still go back often, also in a couple weeks I am starting work for a company in Wilmington DE and will be traveling back and forth, so depending on where you are, I may be in the area... Are you a dealer? Thanks

PA, 1/2 hour-45 minutes from Wilmington
Yes, I'm a non-greedy dealer (pxymoron)
I buy Volvos per customer order
