This is the test page I got. It tells me nothing. Maybe it's a B&W print and all those buttons are green showing OK.

Left > middle > right side of page.

Yes, one lead to ground, the other lead to the fuse contact. I checked my car and power is on the left fuse contact, I used a bolt on the door jam as ground. I also noticed on my car (2001 V70) the CEM fuses didn't match exactly with 2002 wiring diagram I have. Fuse 22 may not be correct for one of the CEM power fuses, check the fuse label on your car, it may be fuse 25 like my car or 22 like the wiring diagram. Fuse 32 and 14 were correct.

I submitted a warranty claim. He says that goes directly to the technicians and they will try to diagnose. They may have some things I can check myself on the car before shipping it back.

That sucks. Hopefully the technician can get with you quick and determine if it’s something silly or not. I’ve had the DIM out of my S60 and it’s not rocket science. I know you plugged it in and expected to be cruising, instead going WTF…

Most of the problems you're describing could be a problem with the low-speed bus through the DIM and I have some questions about some of the other problems you've describe that don't use the low-speed bus through the DIM.

Does your driver's side power seat movement work? This PSM low-speed bus goes directly to the CEM and not through the DIM so wondering if the PSM may be working.

On your light switch module, do the backlights work? If the fog light buttons and headlight/parking knob doesn't work and the backlights are out, this should only be a CEM problem and why I think checking the power fuses for the CEM is worthwhile. LSM only uses a single signal line to communicate with the CEM, not the low-speed bus.

Does the mileage/trip and clock display windows work in the repaired DIM? My cars lights up these windows and seatbelt warning light in key position I and the info windows, gauges and all the warning lights come on i position II.

The engine dip at idle is an indication the battery was disconnected and went low on charge and you lost some save parameters for idle. This should clear up after running the engine for a while. Did you disconnect the battery or did it get low on charge?

Just came back inside - it's 90 out there.

Didn't check the seat, no.

Backlights were on last night in the dark. Taillights and brake lights. No flashers or turn signal lamps.

The mileage / clock / temp windows were on very dimly at position #1, then went out after a few seconds.

A follow-up. No call from Xem, it's 5:00 in the east.

I checked the fuses per instructions above.

DIM Module out / unplugged:

Fuse 14 (power seat passenger) 5A OK (not burned) No voltage showing
Fuse 22 (turn indicators) 20A OK 12.33V
Fuse 32 (CEM, courtesy light) 10A OK 12.34V

With DIM plugged in, key out:

14 5A no voltage
22 20A 12.04V
32 10A 12.09V

With DIM plugged in, key in Position 1:

14 5A 11.98V
22 20A 11.94V
32 10A 12.06V

These are measured from the left side of the fuse holder to a bare dash bolt nearby.

While I was in there, I noticed fuse 27 is missing. The panel says CCD. Community College of Denver? Cleidocranial Dysplasia - Johns Hopkins Medicine? Religious "education" of children? What is it in Volvo?

So I wonder why it's missing? Was there an issue and some earlier mechanic pulled it? Now is not the time to introduce new problems or short circuits, I'll leave it for now.

While I'm working in there with the module in, I bumped the turn signal lever.....and they worked! So I started it up and other things worked - the sunroof, the wipers, the flashers, ALL the windows, the door locks...... What is going on? I plugged it in carefully, got the click. I did the same click the first time, no different. 5 messages in the alert window > engine service, headlamp bulb, SRS service immediately, engine service required.

Does my car smell the exasperation? Did she hear me mumble that as soon as I get you running you're out of here, I don't care for how much!?

More testing tonight in the dark.

Even though the fuses checked out and the voltage was present it's possible reseating the fuses helped restore missing or low (due to resistance) power to the CEM. Do an inventory of all that works now and what still doesn't. If the previous symptoms come back I would replace or swap the fuses with same Amp rating and clean the fuse connectors associated with the CEM power, 22, 32 and 14.

From this link and for your model year it looks like there's no fuse 27.
