I love the over/under tail lamps... which hint at American 50s designs to me but I don't know where that comes from exactly. It just looks like a 50s Jet Age American design item. Love it. And those tall steelies, my goodness. So pretty... and BIG for the size of the car.

That is a snappy shape, Matt! It's cool. Looks like it has several influences. I wonder if that's fiberglass the way that ridge down the side looks. A fairly small car with tall wheels - cool proportions.

BB, you're a Master of Italian and French cars. This car is just incredible to me.

1988 Renault Alpine GTA Turbo

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-alpine-v6/
This 1988 Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo has 68k kilometers (~42k miles) and was acquired by the seller in 2014 after it was featured on BaT. This example received a recent repaint and the updated interior is trimmed in gray and tan. The rear-mounted 2.5 liter V6 is turbocharged and paired to a 5-speed manual. Extensive engine-out services completed in 2015 included new distributor, rotor, plugs and wires, battery, lambda sensor, clutch, shifter bushings, water pump, and cooling hoses. At the same time the front suspension was rebuilt, the A/C system upgraded, and the valves adjusted. Research by the seller indicates this car was built for the Swiss market, later slated for Austria but rerouted to Japan where it spent its life until brought to Canada. It was imported to the US three years ago and is sold with full DOT and Customs documentation. This Alpine GTA is now legally registered and carries a clean Texas title.

Ohh, I understand now, I looked this up.

Alpine (al-PEEN), an independent French maker, built the fantastic 110 in the 60’s. It was a rear-engined badass rally car.

In 1977, Alpine merged with Renault and eventually this red car was built. Also rear-engined - you see the intake vents at the rear quarter windows. Pretty cool.

To me it may be pinnacle (or one of them) of great 1980s styling that many now know as Cassette Futurism. It's not so much a term in automotive worlds as it is in smaller products and design (like Braun, Bang & Olufsen).

The Volvo 780 also has major CF vibes, which is why I want one.

Whatever the label, a turbo V6 rear engined, 2-door car with a manual, my goodness...

Bang & Olufsen made some cool stuff - what happened to them?

And who remembers Silent Running with Bruce Dern? Such a cool but dark movie. Hughie Louie & Dewie were the precursors to R2D2.
