99 V70 97k mi Idle control valve won't shut down

Post by JoeNewbie »

I have noticed my new battery running a little low in the mornings.
More so if the car has sat for 2 days. The is a humming coming from the idle control valve. Its powered up. Unplugged it, it has 12v running to the center wire. Plug it back in and it is still powered up. Unplugged the MAF sensor and it stopped, plugged MAF back in and it stopped.......On a cold engine.
On a warm/hot engine, engine off, same thing only unplugging and reconnecting the MAF will not shut the valve down.
It's not the idle control valve.....It's what controls it.
No codes.
Crappy gas mileage but that may be from the 10% ethanol I get. (Can't get real gas around here anymore)
I understand that this may be covered under warranty but I would like to know what is wrong before I go to the dealership.

If yours is a '99 like your topic states, nothing is going to be under warranty. You have some sort of short for it to be on all of the time. Mine seems to be on more if the key is in the ignition so check your ignition switch first for problems.

Made In Japan...........
Thanks for the reply

I bought this car used several years ago at 59k miles.

I just read in the past few days on some forum that

there was a 10 year 100k mile warranty on some things

relating to the engine. (someone had their MAF sensor replaced

under warranty)

This is the exception to the rule and personally of all the years I've been on these forums I've never heard of it. Now there is a 10 year/200K mile warranty on the ETM but that's really not even engine related, nor is the MAF for that matter.

Electronic Throttle Module which were poorly designed and apt to failure in '99-'01 and some early '02 model Volvo's. We have an entire section on this forum dedicated to the ETM so go take a lookie.
