How to open throttle for compression test

Post by CedBobKing »

My V70 drives just fine. I am just checking on it. How would one go about opening the throttle to do a compression test?

After warming the engine, I pulled the fuel pump fuse while running to clear any fuel. I removed all five coils and spark plugs. I turned the starter over and pressure keeps building through about a dozen turns. My experience from the dark ages is that a few turns will give peak pressure. So I stopped. I did not touch the throttle pedal because there is no physical linkage. I am assuming that the engine is sucking in air through a drinking straw.

If I turn the starter over with the pedal to the floor, will the ECU open the throttle? Some call it "clear flood mode". Should I disconnect the brake booster so it can breathe? Should I crack the tube from the intercooler to the throttle?

I suppose I could do the leakdown test shown in VIDA, but I think I am more comfortable with a compression test.

Thanks,

Cedric

The throttle is open when the starter is working. Perhaps not a full throttle, but enough for engine to breath at those low revs.
