I took my VW Alltrack into Discount Tire today. It's where I got my 225mm Conti DWS's in 2019 https://www.alltrackworld.com/alltrack-tires/
One is at the wear bar, so at a paltry 26k miles it's well (well) short of the 60k 50k mile warranty. Embarrassingly short.
A guy came out with a phone type thing and scanned the tread depth and sidewall manufacture date (really, they do this... I'm over here living in 3044).
Those numbers get crunched to yield a $72/tire discount on my next set, bringing that wallet-punching number to under $500. That discount is generally in the ballpark of half what I spent in 2019. I'm happy, and I'm not going to argue about % tread depth.
The non-wear bar tires are decent for another say 5k miles. (Yes I need to pay more attention to rotation and use my cool jack more.)
I'm going to roll that $288 credit into a Kuhmo buy https://beta.discounttire.com/buy-tires ... 31/p/37758 at the stock size of 205/55/17.

It could be because they're the DWS, not the DW, they're softer and are wearing more quickly. That Snow component changes the rubber. I think I've had a set of these, and I don't remember them lasting a long time. A bit frustrating.
EDIT - they were warrantied to 60K?

I can hear JRL's ghost saying they last longer than that and my alignment was off and it's my fault.
He was a big fan of Conti DWS tires.
We fought and I once banned him for 6 months, but we also had some good off-forum conversations, and he was a good man.
RIP JRL.

Pre-invoice document. I'm waiting on the tires to get shipped to this store. Nothing earth shattering, just info in case you haven't bought tires in years and want to brush up on the game before you get back into it.
Here in yellow we have the credit, and we have the bigger margin items, like "adjustment"/balance. Balance I get, but adjustment?
I'll ask them to be sure to give each tire more than enough adjustment, because I don't want to run out on the road.
I declined the certificates. At $25/tire, I was looking forward to it until they told me I actually wouldn't be getting a physical certificate (I'd put on my wall, framed, X4, behind my desk -- I lost my diploma years ago and the wall is just so blank and I need to do something with all that white space).

My first 850 Turbo had Goodyear Eagles; two were beyond help so I replaced them right away. I soon discovered that 1) they would loose grip if there was dew on the grass, and 2) they didn't last much past 20k. Kumhos went on and that brand has given mostly good service through the years, although it seems the tires from Korea do better than the China version.

Your Goodyear Eagles didn't have enough adjustment in them.

I have had Kumho tires on various cars when bought over the years and found them generally noisy and short lived. So, I avoid them whether made in China or Korea. I think all the ones we had were made in Korea.
It is disappointing to hear about the Conti's although any tire with an M$S rating, winter rating or what we call 'All weather rating' are generally very soft to run under +7C and grip in snow and ice. All season tires we now call 3-season tires as mostly poor winter grip.
My brother recently got a deal on All weather Michelins from Costco with a $150 discount on a set for my niece's 97 850. It will be interesting how well they work out. Having moved to CO from CA what tires you will need is a guess depending on where you live. I guess I could have asked a local if I had known!
I have summer and winter tires for our cars as I had looked at the All Weather tires to eliminate the 2 sets of wheels and tires but read many reports on poor ice grip and short life spans if used year around.
The exception is on the 4Runner. I am using Michelin LTX tires. I had these on our 01 Suburban and they were really good in all conditions with AWD and driving to the conditions. This will be the first winter and they are an M&S tire so we will see how they go. I previously had a set of Canadian Tire's own brand M&S tires which I used all year around and they were actually good but do wear quickly. I do find the LTX tires really have hard/stiff sidewalls and are jarring on the 4Runner. I guess they were designed for trucks more than SUV's. The Suburban was a heavy vehicle so it didn't show as an issue on that.
I am fortunate as being retired has meant I do a low annual mileage, so wear is not an issue as the tires tend to rot before they get close to wearing out! A good example is the 'R' that has done about 12k miles in 10 years and both sets of tires were swapped with close to 80% of tread still intact! Annoying thing was I bought a brand-new set of Vredstein winter tires for the 'R' on a huge discount at winter season end the year we decided to rest the 'R' over the winter!
Those tires are still on a set of Volans (could do with re-finishing) on a tire rack and unused. I then bought a set of used tires as slaves and had them fitted to another set of re-finished Volvo rims as slave tires so if they get flat-spotted I don't care.
Neil.

I'm pleased with my Goodyear Assurance tires. They are wearing well, perform well, and have little to no road noise. I'm curious to see how they do this winter with 4/32" tread remaining.
Goodyear has changed the tread design on their Assurance over the years. The long V grooves in the ~2016 models had great reviews. My ~2018 are nice but might not longer be available. I need two more for Geronimo so am curious to see how they've changed.
