Somebody out West that can buy on SalvageBid should rescue this poor thing; looks too good in the pics to let the crusher have it for weight.

Too good to crush. Could be parted out, better to reassemble.

It only needs a grille surround, and a RH fender and that is about it!
Weird is that there was an identical one for sale in Kelowna B.C. recently. Actually it is still there!

Amazon wagons were rare to begin with here, and are quickly vanishing. As difficult as I found it to deal with SalvageBid, if this poor thing were closer I would probably jump through the hoops.

So help me understand this deal -
This seemingly nice condition car with new seat covers was hit. We don't know how badly. Someone has stripped (all?) the damaged parts off. The tire was blown in the impact.
Why would a collectable car like this not be sold by the owner through classifieds or Volvo channels as a project? How did it get to a sketchy auction? Would a Hagerty policy pay off the owner and then send it to auction?
What is this SalvageBid operation? Is it a legit thing? What does cash value $15,600 mean? Do they think they could get that when Neil shows us a perfectly good but stored car for a fraction of that?
I see the note "Undercarriage damage." This could mean a lot of things. The LF suspension pick-up points? Cross member tweaked? Shock mount ripped off?
What I see in the front-on photo is a straight looking but rusty radiator support rail. The hood may be bent, hard to tell. LF fender rail has (normal) surface rust on the mounting surface. So we're missing the fender, the front frame rails, bumper, apron, front fascia, grille, etc. It has the upper radiator bulkhead and radiator intact. It has SU's and a seemingly tidy engine, so not an abandoned mess.
Here's the naked front of an Amazon showing the radiator support rail....
I am 480 miles from Tacoma. I couldn't go see it.
Neil's example is pretty solid. Is that a decent price? Needs paint ($$), needs interior updated ($$). IS that an extra hatch because original is rusted? Engine a bit of a mess - been sitting a long time, single carb?
I'm obviously a bit suspicious of this auction car. Also, there are a lot of old Volvo people nearby in Seattle who I would think would jump on this. Maybe it's someone they know.

Kelowna is sort of dry wine country, isn't it?
OH, and it has the very rare 1-liter Italian tax law engine!

Ha, Ha!! Yes, it is a Facebook Marketplace weird feature. No idea what it is meant for?
Yes, Kelowna is a dry area mostly, hot in summer and cool in winter. Huge wine growing area with I believe close to 1000 wineries!
So, if you go to see the car and are disappointed in the car there is an upside to a wine tour...............!

OK, SalvageBid is a membership company that bids "on your behalf." They are NOT the auction company, they merely report the information provided by the auction house.

"Salvagebid will bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid amount, to win you the vehicle at the lowest possible price, sometimes coming in below the bidder's maximum bid. To be represented at the Live Auction, the bidder must first bid online and have the winning preliminary bid."

I found the auction house which actually has the car. They have more photos.
There is also a 3D walk-around view, which is revealing. The orange is spray paint showing damaged structure. The upper control arm is bent - what about the mount? The drivers door has a kink in it near the leading edge, so the fender was shoved into the door. The door has a dent and big scrape down the side. Rust shows at fender mounting surfaces. It's a wet climate car after all. The rear edge of the hood is lifted up and crooked - which might mean the underlying structure has been tweaked. There appears to be a crease at the bottom of the windshield post.

The Insurance industry set up a network of salvage yards to sell off total-loss cars. It has always been a gigantic PITA to deal with these operations. Much like CoPart, there are multiple hurdles put in place; my guess is there are used car dealers and big srappers pulling the strings. In some states only 'dealers' and licensed scrap operators can buy direct; everybody else has to go through a third party. SalvageBid is one generic way, and I did make an attempt to plumb the depths of their website, but gave up pretty quickly.BlackBart wrote: ↑13 Oct 2022, 14:04 OK, SalvageBid is a membership company that bids "on your behalf."
