97 850 won't stay running - Security system question

97 850 won't stay running - Security system question

I have another thread running on this issue but it made me think as to how the security system should work on a 97 assuming no chipped key.

If the immobilizer is tripped, I can't recall in an 850 if the engine will still turn over but it kills the injectors power or fuel pump pressure?

On my M4.4 V70 I've tried a key without the chip, it starts for like half a second then the immo kills it

Thanks Goupil. Appreciate your reply. I am now continuing the subject on another thread that started on a different path but has now merged with this one. When you says the immo kills it, what does it kill? Electrical feed to ignition, can't be starter as it did start first time, but them once the immo is tripped when you turn the key does it try to start again or do you get nothing?

Not sure what the immo is cutting, might be able to find it by looking at wiring diagrams. I'd say either the ignition or the fuel pump.

As far as I can remember, I think you need to go back to pos.0 on the ignition to get it to crank again. I'm currently using a non-immo ECU but I can throw a spare one in to try again.
