I went through a few months of 13 to 14 mpg with our '96 850 turbo wagon. Checked out everything possible (new vacuum lines, cleaned the MAF and throttle body, etc., etc.) and then I finally changed the front O2 sensor. At the same time I removed the extension cable attached to the sensor; it's pins were corroded at both ends. I also reset the ECU adaptives (disconnect the battery and step on the brake pedal, or leave the battery disconnectd for 30 minutes) at that time, too.

My gas mileage immediately increased and is currently averaging 20.5 mpg in town and about 28 - 30 on the highway.

If you are interested search for "Gas Mileage" in the 850 forum. You'll find lots of posts about poor gas mileage.

My 1996 850 Turbo used to get great mileage. Low 20s in town and close to 30 on the highway. All of a sudden I had a huge drop in mpg. I suspect the O2 sensor although I am not getting any error codes. I will keep you posted.
