I should have included the primary source in the first post;

Dealing with the Insurance industry head-on can be quite the adventure. In some states the public can bid on some cars directly; I do not live in one of those several states. Folks in the Pacific Northwest who are close enough to do a rescue can dig around in the IAA website. As an alternate plan, if somebody could find a cooperative used car dealer, or a licensed scrapper, they could bid by proxy without having to use a third-party operator like SalvageBid.

Even if it went for $2000, there are many hours of labor to get this thing straight and realigned and panels fitted. (and paint)

On BaT they've been going for $18-26k, with one hitting $40k as the outlier.
My instinct, having two pre-67 cars in the collection, is to try to help this poor thing find a home someplace besides a date with the crusher.
I struggle with the lost puppy thing. I'm bidding on a '63 Olds F85 with the aluminum V8 and three pedals at the moment; I have neither the time nor the disposable cash to follow it all the way down the rabbit hole, but I can't bring myself to let it pass without a try.

Sometimes you get a hard math problem, and you do your best but you just don't know if you got it right until after, when the teacher grades it and you get the test back days later. This is that, if you were to buy this Amazon.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

The suspension and tub damage are obvious in the pics, so this wouldn't be a good candidate for a weekend warrior. There seems to be a method for in-person inspection at this yard, and as mentioned, it may be possible for a Washington resident to bid directly. That would be one of the only reasonable scenarios for somebody with the skills and patience to be the savior in this instant case. Some body shops will do a frame pull on a contract basis, usually at a fixed price, leaving the rest of the assembly to said Savior.
I'm a proud member of the generation that hates to see rare things go to waste. Ask Steve what my back yard looks like - and he didn't even see the other V70 or Project Duett.

Your back yard is wonderfully equipped to receive more beautiful Volvo children.

Already have the misty blue T5 worrying me, and I just watched that '63 F85 Cutlas aluminum V8 three pedal project hammer for 3400 plus fees and delivery.
Vanishingly rare then, first one I've seen in decades, but I do need to fix the pier, and the 850, and...

I think these types of damages are best suited as part out donors for other cars. This is not near as hard for most people as a restoration.

Is that the same engine as the aluminum Buick 215 (which became the Rover 3.5)?

Interesting engine story. See Nailhead Buick engine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V8_engine.
