S80 2001 Transmission Problem

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

 My 2001 S80T6 w/ 75,000 miles just lost a transmission. Is this common?

unfortunatly I think the trannys volvo uses are very inadequate. I've gone through a tranny on my 94 855 (warranty-replaced, thank God!) and I had a scare that my 93 854 was gonna go out about a month or two ago.

also have an s80-99. Transmission just went out at 79k. They should be ashamed of themselves. See my post for additional disappointments.

I have a S80 and the transmission light comes on periodically along with a whole host of other lights such as power steering, abs brakes and stc. Oh yeah, my power locks don't work either.

I just found this site and I feel a little better now knowing others have had similar problems... I didn't get stiffed by myself!!!

My S80 has original ECU, engine, and tranny (new abs). My tranny started acting a little funny, suddering btw hard accell shifts and small slippage on highway [barely noticable]. I figured this thing was about to eat it like my 93-850. I did some research and found that the tranny is a GM based computer controlled slush-box...true or not, i enlisted the help of a friend and got some gaskets and synthetic r-purple fluid. the first change was at 85K and the final was at 95K (2-3 months in my driving). wether the gear box is GM or not, the syn fluids will do a great job of helping flush out the buildup that can contribute to tranny malfunction/heating/death. the syn fluids also hold more consistant properties. I am a chem engr and the friend is a mech engr (rotating equip), so i trust his judgement...I just wish i had the presence of mind to tackle the torque converter fluid...that made a night/day difference in my 99-240 and dad's 99-940T.

good luck,
I had to drop the bottom pan and made a total mess...but i'm happy and averaging 25mpg hwy/cty driving (heavy on the gas pedal).
