Hy Buddies,
I have a newbie question.

I work on a engine top at the moment for my homework. It's a sort of training home to get ready to do it on my 850 during this winter. Here's my question. I disassemble the camshafts, the connecting rod bearings, the pistons. For the pistons and the connecting rods, abscate already gave me some explanations. But once the camshafts are out, how can I be sure to put them back in place in relation to the timing? Is there a mark on the camshafts, I've never done that before. Is it just a question of get the camshafts out and put them back the same way they got out ?

Yesterday, Clemens was speaking about bearings in the M56. Is it a difficult operation to do to replace them ? I suppose it's necessary to have some special tools, or an extractor is the basic one ? When i will replace mine, i will open the tired one to see and to understand clearly how it works.

There are always some marks but every manufacturer is different, so you need some some reference material

I will ask my friend who will rebuild my tranny if any special tools will be needed (he rebuilds old rally cars for a living). I think mainly you need standard tools and the know how of how to do it.

You need a service shop manual to rebuild a transmission and differential. There are often shims and special procedures to set lash and things like this that need to be correct. It’s not a place for novice mechanic without guidance

Haynes published a Service manual for Volvo 850 Petrol 1992-1996. I looked, but did not find a Bentley manual for the same. Haynes manuals are OK but not as complete as Bentley manuals. As far as I know, both would be in English.

The camshafts have asymmetrical slots on the rear ends that are used for timing. Using the slots is documented widely in this forum and the repair docs you can find on the internet. The intake cam has an I stamped on the rear, the exhaust cam an E.

Yes, it's a Citroen Jumper block (for Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat one). I've done my homework on that.
