1998 v70 fuel filter removal

Post by surfbug1 »

Ok, so I'm stuck

Front fuel line is off.... (The one that connects to the front of fuel filter near the rear pass tire)

The bolt holding the strap.....that holds the fuel filter in place ..... Is loose and the filter is moving a little, but not coming out

And.....the rear fuel line, connecting to the rear of the fuel filter...this one is STUCK!

I have tried to pry this off, with an open ended wrench, by putting it between the filter and the fuel line.

Can't make it move.

Any advice?

Do I need to press the ring on the fuel line?

Help please

Get the filter turning on the line first. This unsticks the orings

Now tighten the filter until it is firm

You have to grasp the fat part of the rear fuel line, apply pressure to the collar to rear, then slide the line off, holding the collar depressed.

Ok I got it off....thanks!

Put everything back together.

Started it up, and she runs

Gonna take it on a test drive.

Question, the lines that connect to the fuel filter seem REALLY loose.

But there is no fuel dripping.

Is there a way to "tighten" these strange connections that are direct to the filter?

Better yet, can someone tell me what kind of connections these are, and how they work?

Thank you

(Connection from fuel line to the filter, both front and rear of filter )

Can i ask where the fuel filter is on this car?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

It should be under the right rear of the car just in front the rear wheel.

Yes. Location is under the vehicle in front of the right passenger rear tire.

Apologize, the first pic is upside down 🙃

They are just orings which seal around the metal snout in the filter. The fuel pressure can’t push the line off as it is rigid, and there are steel springs which press on the snout to hold it in place

The snout forces in a ring which opens up the springs and allows you to pull the line off the filter.

Fuel filter is a great maintenance item, may be in my head but seems I could feel more power on both my S60s with a new fuel filter. Volvo makes it a pretty easy job too.

So having just dealt with this, it's apparently some kind of pressure fitting. There is a red plastic part under the rubber end that I think needs to press in to disengage the clamp. Mine did not, so I had to replace that section of line.
