Parts compatibility 740/940

I just bought a 91 940 gle Wagon DOHC and i'm wondering what parts I could/should pull from my 87 740 gle wagon to use on the newer car. It appears that the doors are the same so I'd like to pull one of them to replace a tired one on the new car. Also, is the fuel tank sending unit compatible?

I don't think the fuel tank sending unit is compatible. 1988 was the year they revised fuel senders.
On that DOHC engine be sure the oil pump gear bolt is replaced. Get a grade 10.8 or 12.8 in the correct pitch and length with a flat washer. The bolt head breaking off 3-7K kM after a belt service or any other service where belt is removed is very common. The gear bolt breaking kicks off belt and it destroys several valves and usually does damage to valve guides.
The oil pump is next to the crankshaft on front of engine and has the mounting point for the gear offset far forward as it is bell shaped gear as it shrouds the oil pump. The offset puts a lot of load on that single bolt.

Yes, doors are interchangeable

Doors are interchangeable, but, the door panels must stay with the doors.

You may be able to check parts interchange by finding replacement parts for both and see if the supplier (Volvo or aftermarket) part number is the same.
