2005 XC90 2.5T engine knock video

Post by valvolvo70 »

Looking to purchase my brother-in-laws XC90 2.5T 120K. Asking for guidance related to a loud knock from engine. I haven't had the time to pull codes and evaluate the problem myself but he did send this video. Please check it out and let me know if there's an issue with playback.

I own a 1998 V70 T5 240K and perform all maintenance myself so I'm familiar with the make/model and potential repair pitfalls.

That sounds substantial to me. The injectors on the Volvo whiteblock tick... but that seems a little more than tick. <- disclaimer, videos are better than written descriptions, but at the end of the day it's a video

Thank you for you reply. Yes, substantial indeed (hammer on the block) and definitely not the tick I'm familiar with. Ive been researching general rod knock sounds and they all seemingly sound the same, like this video. Ill pass on this XC90, I already have 2 daily driver project vehicles.

You've got a whiteblock. You know.

It's loud.

The 5-cyl XC90s are hard to find in good condition/known history nowadays, so that's too bad.
