P2 9452709 Alarm service required
04 V70, the alarm service thing comes on at start up. Not a big deal, but was hoping it was an easy reset kinda thing. Sounds like it's not so easy or cheap . I never use the alarm, can I just "clip the wires" on the siren (there's a siren?) on this old girl and get that message to stop? Dave

You have three options.
1) Pull the fuse to it. I think this will disable your sunroof from working.
2) Go to a VOLVO Dealer and have them download the software (P/N 9438408) in order to remove the alarm functionality from your car. After that I would probably physically remove the module from the car in order to prevent any issues.
3) Replace the siren (Erie Vovo has good prices I've heard)
My S60 didn't have a sunroof, so I removed the fuse and the module and live with the brief message on startup. I've tried to get 4 sirens from the junkyard and all of them had corroded PCB's and weren't worth installing.

Br0dy- Thanks for the reply. Currently the only issue I have is the message coming on at startup- alarm doesn't come on (or stay on). I like my sunroof, rather not disable it. Anything with the words "Volvo Dealer" in it sounds too expensive to me. I could see a visit to a dealer costing me $300 bucks or more. Can I replace the batteries in that siren? Seems like any used ebay siren would have old spent batteries in it. A 3" long piece of black tape over that warning really would work pretty well. Dave

I'd recommend buying a new siren and replacing it if you plan on keeping the car for any period of time. Of course, a piece of tape is cheaper until other things malfunction and you get locked out of your car.
Roll the dice.
Best of luck to you.

Many reports of sunroof still working after fuse removal.
Battery is replaceable but its likely the pcb is already damaged. Battery is also weird its a nicad 7.2v made up of some strange pile of them. But you could replace if you sourced them.
It might not be a problem now but I have witnessed first hand vehicles going off on alarm flashing lights in the middle of the night- all night long potentially killing your battery and no start in the morning. I figured it’s safe to just remove it from the equation.
$300 is probably a bit high for the removal software, but a new siren is likely more expensive than that. Good luck and let us know.

About 10 years ago, I drove my 01 V70 up to New York city and got up there early enough on a Sunday morning to get a good parking space downtown. While walking away from the car, I heard a horn blowing and sure enough, it was mine. I got it to stop and replaced the alarm module when I got home.
I was afraid the horn would blow all day and drain the battery, but It didn't.
My current 02 V70, 01 V70 and 05 S60 all gave the Alarm warning and after my original NYC indecent, I just have my local shop replace the evil module. The last 3 Volvo's I mentioned never blew the horn and flashed the lights, they only had the Alarm warning light.

I'm gonna try pulling that fuse. Hopefully the sunroof will still function. But if it doesn't, no big deal as Ive got a solid 5 months or so before sunroof weather returns anyway. Dave

It’s $267 at FCP In late 2022, and an easy diy bolt on
The alarm is on the CANBUS so if it stops working , it can inhibit some other things from working, like having keys made , for instance

So is it ok to just yank that fuse? Or is something going to become messed up if I drive it with no alarm fuse? D
