2004 XC70 turbo coolant hose replacement

Hi new to site. Have a 2004 xc70. Need advice on how to replace turbo coolant hoses. Watched several videos on YouTube, but none really address p2. After looking from both top and bottom, hoses look almost impossible to access.

Unfotunately they are and more so on AWD cars as the angle gear and rear engine mounts make access difficult. On my P80 Volvo AWD I did the upper one which was fairly difficult but left the lower one to the dealer. Now that I have a hoist I might have tried myself as it makes it a little easier but not much.

Thanks, was hoping there was an approach to access these. Going to try the top one. It's the one leaking I think. I can see the lower one from the bottom. But only one end. Will have to remove some stuff from the top and see if I can find the top one.

Crazy design. All auto manufacturers should require their engineering teams to have to service their designs. Especially on cars that are 10 or more years old.
Ridiculous that you have hoses that you can barely see, let alone access.

pull the pass side axle, then the angle gear box, thats why shops charge $600 labor.
Or just do your best. Thats what I did.

In all honesty if I could find a shop that was willing to do it for $600.00, I would probably have them do it. Unfortunately the closest dealer is over 2 hrs away. Couldn't drive the car there. None of the small independent shops will work on Volvos. Are there any links on removing the angle gear box? I have never done that.
Have had lots of Volvos, 240s, 740s and 740ts. This is the first issue where something is dang near impossible to get to. Thanks

Thanks, I checked out Robert's video a while back. Even posted a question about the xc turbo coolant hoses. He responded and said they were difficult on p2 cars. The car in the video is a bit different than the xc. I actually compared the video while under my car.
Anyway found several videos on removing the angle gear . Going to order the parts and see if I can get back on the road.

I have removed the P2 angle gear twice. I'd be disappointed to have to do it for the turbo hoses but I would, really it's not that bad. The tricky part is the rear drive shaft, then the angle gear is just a couple hard-to-reach bolts and you can roll it out.

Be sure to also replace the turbo oil drain return line gasket too, while you have the AG out. I'd change the oil in the AG too, and inspect the splines at the collar junction for the amount of wear.

It’s relatively newfound knowledge here that the angle gear does not use straight gear oil but a low foam oil. Many have used gear oil, but I speculate that there is probably a reason for the difference. I have one AWD car and when I do the angle gear it will get Volvo unicorn tears

Thanks all for the info and insights.
I watched several videos. Looks pretty straight forward. Of course on a near 20 year old car Murphy's Law always comes into play. On one video the guy didn't totally remove the drive shaft. Just at the angle gear.
I was planning on getting the Volvo collar kit. The car has over 200k on it. It comes with the coupler/collar , the seals and new bolts. Does ipd or fcp have the turbo return oil line gasket?
I noticed in Robert's video he used I believe some synthetic Valvoline gear oil. I will change the oil out. I wonder what the spec is on the Volvo oil? I have some Amsoil gear oil on hand.
I have read some comments on the coolant hoses. Some say that the silicone after market are hard to get on. I figured I would go with the Volvo rubber ones unless I get conflicting info. The originals lasted 18 years. That's longer then I will last. Lol.
I guess once I have the parts in hand I will start on this. Seeing as how there is so little info on this repair, I will try to write up some details on the repair, pitfalls and such.
