Gasoline has dropped hugely here too. It still baffles me that we pay more than the US when we actually produce it in this province! Our Provincial government has dropped the tax of 13c/liter for another 6 months to try to help Albertans struggling with the 10+% inflation. A lot of that inflation is blamed on the cost of fuel. How can that be when we are now paying only $1.12/liter and a few months ago we were paying nearly $1.90 CDN/liter for regular gas? The price of gasoline has fallen dramatically over the last few months. I can now almost afford to fill the Toyota again. All of our cars run on premium gas which is 20c/liter more than regular.

Having said that, Diesel is still stupid expensive compared with gasoline for some reason. It is part of the reason diesel vehicles never really took off over here as the price difference makes any saving on mileage null and void.

I just can't help but feel so sorry for those of you in Europe in particular paying what you have to for gasoline.

Replaced the spark plugs in Blue Steel with the tri-prong Bosch sold by FCP. Air filter, too!

Checked with a local junk yard for a windshield (not available) and a steering rack ($100), then second guessed whether it was a good idea.

Diesel is outrageously expensive. I considered buying a diesel X5 many times, but I can't justify the fuel economy difference with the fuel cost. I'd rather get 18 mpg and pay $3 and change a gallon than 22 mpg at $5/gal.

Ordered a green Rein coolant reservoir cap rated at 150 kPa to replace the black Gates 75 kPa cap that kept hissing for at least a half hour after shutting off Blue Steel.

Driving home yesterday, I was spooked by an intermittent low coolant light. I looked today and found the overflow tank just below the minimum level.

Drove the T5 around today instead, after a third instance this week of crank, no start and an occasional start and almost-immediate stalling. Once it starts, it’s good to go for the rest of the day. Weird.

Hissing maybe from over pressurization and the other issue could be moisture in the combustion chamber?

More than likely a junk cap, I wouldn't use those Gates caps. Only use OEM expansion tank caps.

I'm not a big fan of Gates stuff on our cars; I think you had a weak cap. When you turn off the engine, the water stops moving, whether the fan keeps running or not. You end up with right stout temp spikes around the top of the cylinders, which will cause a bit of a blip in the pressure. It shouldn't lift the valve in the cap though.
If you're actually loosing coolant that's a whole 'nuther sport.
As an aside, on both of my 850s I took the 1.5 bar caps off and put on Meyle .75 - which in Murican is about an 11 pound cap. (Every Brick I ever owned had that same cap.) If the poor old cars got hot enough to make more pressure than that, I didn't want the heater core or radiator to be where the first clue appeared.
My suggestion is still to start with the most basic, simple stuff - like the cap fix you just mentioned - instead of launching down the rabbit hole of Doom and Gloom.
