Quantity of Dealer v's Private sale Volvos in your area?

I find it frustrating and sad that in Alberta Canada, the main sales medium we use is called Kijiji is being over run by dealer ads.

Used to be prior to Covid there was probably near 50/50 split on advertising. Now we have less than 60/450 cars for sale that are private sellers. Most of those have been on there for a long time hugely overpriced by optomistic owners. Anything fairly priced sells in hours.

All those dealer ads are for hugely overpriced newer models from about 2010-, but most are 2015-. They are sitting there for days not selling. We no longer see those 'bargain' cars you love to go buy and tinker with.

Facebook marketplace is the only other place of any volume of cars for sale, but most have been on there for months as over-optomistic owners look for ridiculous prices (anyone want a 2004 XC90 T6 for $12000 CDN? for example).

Hopefully in the next couple of years reality may return to the market place so the older cars can get sold as owners can afford the newer models and sell us the older ones!

Are their filters you can put in place for pricing and/or private sales?

Yes there are, but they don't add the good old private cars to any greater quantity on Kijiji. On the other hand, Facebook marketplace has no useful filters and seems to be unable to distinguish and Audi or Toyota or any other brand from a Volvo, even when you put in Volvo as the search criteria for cars or spares. Says about all I have to say on Facebook...........!

This is Facebook intentionally giving you overly broad search results forcing you to endlessly dig for what you want. Their goal is maximum engagement of user attention and they achieve it by intentionally doing a terrible job instead of an efficient one. Unfortunately, the hoards of people are sucked in to Facebook, using Marketplace over much better systems like Craigslist. I'm glad I'm not in the market for any cheap private sale car because I sure don't want to use Facebook.

Look at the bright side. Based on what I see on Facebook Marketplace, all you get are unrealistic dreamers. $3750 US for a 250k mile 850 base wagon? $8000 for a 04 XC90 T6? All you see is the same vehicles week after week and they don't get smarter!
