A recent comment that made me chuckle:
"I will never not laugh at the idea of Jaguar, a company historically known for having severe electrical problems spanning several decades, becoming an all-electric brand."

Just happened on this - Original Ford GT40 development notes, and a complete parts list with hand-drawn diagrams.

"As you read through the reports, it becomes apparent that the cars still needed considerable work before they could be considered race worthy. The most glaring issue was the car’s instability at high speeds — not what any driver wants to hear on a track where top speeds could be in excess of 200mph.” "

Well. I've come into good fortune in 2023 and my career path has taken a significant turn for the better, bound to change my families' life significantly. After spending thousands of dollars in the past 3 years, and countless hours on repairs on my cars, I think it may be time to move on from one of the P2's. The reality is that I'm going to have less free time, and more money. Plus one of my children will be of driving age next year so I will be in a good position to pass down a P2 anyway.

It's a bittersweet feeling posting this, but what should my next car be? I seriously doubt I will purchase a new Volvo. They are nice cars, but the lack of a dealership within 250km of me makes ownership absurd when you need any work done. My Volvo indy mechanic, who opened up his own shop after the dealership here closed years ago, has been telling me to buy a Toyota hybrid for the past five years. Should I take his advice? My wife wants a Subaru. She doesn't know what a head gasket is. I work in contracting and everyone in my field seems to have some absurd obsession with driving the largest possible pick-up truck they can find. Although I appreciate the functionality, I don't feel the need to compensate for anything  and the reality is I need a full-size truck... maybe, twice per year? Hardly justifies the price of admission.

The P2 volvo's were great cars for me to learn to work on. I need a car that is serviceable, with good parts availability. And most importantly- a good forum community of helpful, intelligent individuals.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

There are still great p2 bargains out there, with 100k miles, and 150k of life left. A lot less stuff breaks on them than p80s

Do let us know if you find one….. :D

Do you want something basic and reliable, say a Toyota or Honda? Dealer support close? There’s always the ubiquitous 4Runner, which comes in a SWAT / commando version from what I can see among local flat-brim school dads.

Construction - will you be labeled a socialist or non-conformist if you DON’T drive a truck? How about a Rivian pickup, or the suv on the way?

A (new) Land Rover 110.

A vintage Jaguar sedan to make yourself noticed (by tow truck drivers..)

I’m probably a bad influence and not the one to answer this.....
