Downpipe Extra Unused Fitting

Post by rrres »

Noticed that there's some kind of tack welded fitting on the down pipe, just before the flex pipe. What's this for? It doesn't look like a threaded fitting. I'm looking for a place to install an o2 sensor for an AFR gauge and was wondering if I can use this.

Yeah, It has a heat shield and was temporarily removed in that photo. It was held on by three bolts: one on the downpipe flange, then the other two bolts at the top of the exhaust manifold. The fitting in question is way down there, next to the angle gear flange. It's about 3/4 inch diameter with an 1/8 inch diameter center hole with some kind of pin sticking out of the center hole.

I'm no expert, but I think that location would be too close to the turbo. I seem to remember that when I installed mine, it was to be installed apx 18" away from the turbo. I am using the front o2 sensor bung for mine, but I have a tuned ECU from Vast, and Aaron has instructions on how to do that switch.

Thanks for the replies.

I was watching the "SimplyVolvo" youtube channel and saw that the downpipe on his 850 had two of these tack welded things.

I found another photo online which shows the same things.

Is it mounting for additional shielding or whatever due to it being AWD?
