seat heater not working

Post by azureblue »

2001 V70T5
The driver's side seat heater does not work, although the passenger side does. It did not work with the original seats, nor with the replacement seats. The on / off - back / seat button lights up, and the fuse is good. So my guess is there is no power getting to the seat heater. but I don't know which wire is the 12v. . I don't have a pin out of the connector and I can't find it on the net, so if someone has it, I would appreciate sending it to me.
Ideas on where to look? Maybe the on / off button is bad?

PS - does power go to the seat heater connector with key in II position? Or does the engine have to be running?

you could try swapping the control buttons ,
disconnect battery to prevent SRS light if you pull the console panel.

thanks - I can snag a button at the parts yard. Won't take much time to swap in a replacement button. Both indicator lights on the button light up, BTW

Neither seat back nor seat bottom heat coils work. I got a wiring manual but it's not for my car - the one I have shows separate L / R seat heat fuses at 7 and 8, but mine has a single 25A fuse for both front seats. I found the power connector for the seat - assuming it is one power source for the seat motors and the seat heaters. And there is power there. So my idea was to find the wires at the seat that enable seat back or seat bottom and jump the connectors to see if the heat comes on. But I need a diagram for that.

I see from a 2005 wiring diagram that there is a relay panel to the right of the steering column, behind the kick panel. I am assuming that the dash control buttons control a pair of relays (seat back and seat bottom) so I want to check that.

I'm having a time finding the correct service manual for my car - could someone tell me if the 05 is applicable? Or where to find the right service manual?

another reason to get vida set up on a laptop. You could probably control the heaters from Vida, that bypasses the button.

Try this,

Thanks but this manual is for a 2005... at least it says so at the bottom of the pages.
And, yeah, I need to set up VIDA.

I got VIDA, but it's still not set up. I don't have a P2 service manual - I can't find one on the net, but I'm still looking.
At this point logic would point to a failed switch or relay. Since the 12v socket on the dash isn't working, and I want to replace it with a USB outlet, I will probably wait and do both jobs when I have the panel off.. But I can't find where the relay for the seat heaters is. If I can find it, at least I can check to see if it is clicking, which would tell me a lot more..

The 2001 is an early CANBUS car so it doesn’t use traditional relays. The Sest Heater Nodules 9/12 9/13 will be triggered by CCM and CEM inputs and feeds. You could hit the button and look for 12 volts at the connector under seat to see if it is just a burnt out heating element
