Repair Manual
I have a 2006 xc90 2.5T AWD- Does anyone know where I can buy a good repair manual? Anything but the Chilton DIY online repair manual. It sucks! I want something I can own. Thank You

Here is an online version of the factory VIDA repair manual. Scroll down to see the XC90 models. You may need an ad blocker and click outside of the popup box.

Guy on Swedespeed posted some reference links today- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/befo ... st-8049439
I've had a copy of VIDA (SW) running on an old laptop with a knock-off DICE (interface) since 2010, it easily paid for itself by 2011. Just getting VIDA onto a machine can provide outstanding value, the DICE unit can follow. I've used the workshop manual link noted above, it's functional but super clunky (even with an ad blocker).
edit 020923- reference posted today, not yesterday.

Yup. Some people use the old method of keeping a decade old laptop (don’t recommend this). I don’t know why nowadays.
Almost all of us use a virtual machine for use of an older windows and it works flawlessly. I’ve been using a virtual machine with VIDA for years. You can transfer those virtual setups when you upgrade laptops. Newer laptops have more performance. Newer laptops are lighter making it easier to work with in the vehicle.
VIDA is free. Virtual box is free. Already a lot of info on the inter webs about this:

I also run copy of Roxana's VIDA 2014 image on my desktop, been doing that since 2018 maybe. Didn't think that degree of granularity would have been required. The laptop mentioned earlier was loaded up and has been working properly for the last 13 years or so. I have a few spare laptops lying around and can happily upgrade if you can tell me why it would be warranted.

Hello, I don't think I understand...what do you mean by- "I have a few spare laptops lying around and can happily upgrade if you can tell me why it would be warranted." Here's the gist- I'm new to the Volvo world. My girlfriend bought the XC90 a couple years ago as her daily driver. I've fixed several probs over the past couple years (I'm a pretty good shade tree mechanic). One day the dreaded "NO OIL PRESSURE STOP IMMEDIATELY" message came up. After some online research I and the "glove" test I came to the conclusion the previous owner didn't change the oil regularly and the PCV system was severely clogged, and I was right- it was! So I fixed that (what a pain in the A**). took it for a test drive and the message came back. Replaced the oil pressure sensor, cleaned the oil down tube (again) and replaced the sump O rings (again). It didn't help. meanwhile all this time the engine purrs like a kitten. But we kept it parked till I could figure this out. Fast forward to a couple days ago. My friend has a shop with a $3000 dollar Bi-directional code reading machine and is about 30 min away up in a rural area so the internet is spotty at best. I drove it there with the message still up with no problems. Among other minor errors it said there was an error with the VVT and the camshaft positioning sensor. My friend thinks it could be the timing belt. We took it for a drive around the country side to get real time data. It didn't tell us anything new. On the way back suddenly it became gutless, I could flour it and barely get it up to 30mph, the engine started to rattle or tick but I wouldn't say knock and it started pushing out copious amounts of blue smoke! fortunately we were really close to his shop when this started so I was able to practically coast it in and park it. (And still no new error messages) So that's where I'm at. Sorry for the diatribe. That's why I think I need to get VIDA-DICE. This friggin car has me at my wit's end. Thank You for your time. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

How many miles on the XC90? I’m assuming a 2.5t?
What everyone has learned with these vehicles is to change maintenance parts on a schedule (time and/or miles), rather than they completely fail throwing a code.
For the 2.5t, I can say the turbo control valve (TCV) won’t throw a code if it’s sticking. Ignition coils might not throw a code and they go ~100k miles. There are other parts that might not throw a code as well. Some need cleaning, some are very cheap, and some need to be read live ( which I see you tried to do).

Hello chitownV, Thank you for your response. Yes the car in question is a 2006 XC90 2.5T AWD- I replaced all the ignition coils several moths ago. I can't tell you the miles as I am not near the vehicle at the moment. So are you saying the symptoms I described could be the result of a sticking TCV? And what is your opinion on it possibly being a bad timing belt? Also I've read that the oil pumps on these cars are practically bulletproof- Am I wrong to be looking else ware? I'm still working on acquiring the VIDA-DICE. Any advice on that subject? Thank You for your time. I am grateful for any help you can give me.
