Do C70 convertibles have parcel shelf speakers?

I thought I had read that C70 convertibles have parcel shelf speakers. The one in the junkyard did not have any visible speaker covers on the rear shelf that I could see. It did have a smaller speaker and tweeter on either side behind the side panels for the rear seating area.

Anyone know?

I believe that you get mids and tweets under the side windows
and woofers in the seat backs. Nothing in the package tray.

My 98 had parcel shelf speakers but nothing behind the back seats, and maybe some tweeters ? Cant remember now

Thanks guys for the info and wiring diagrams. The diagram shows there are multiple speakers in the rear as you both say. I have added a link below I have now found based on that which shows 2 subwoofers hidden BEHIND the rear seat. I will now have to go investigate but I have a feeling they have already gone as the backrest has been pulled out but at least I will know for the future!

There is another link I will try to find which shows the speakers on the rear parcel shelf but neither says what years they are on:

This one if you look carefully at the first picture, you can see there are speaker grilles on the rear parcel shelf and in the next picture the speakers on the shelf

This video is hand as it shows how to remove the back rest head rests which you have to take out before you can remove the back rest.

I do have a further question. In the wiring diagram it shows 2 filters through which the speaker wires pass. One to each set of speakers on the rear of the car. Any idea what/where those might be? I removed the 2 rear side panel speakers yesterday, but saw no sign of anything like that. Items 16/51 and 16/52? Are they really needed or are the to try to prevent signal interference from electrical stuff like the roof motors and like?

That's what mine looked like.

Can't help with the filter thingies, as it seems like the 98 Coupe didnt get those


Edit: scrolling through your first link, arent the "plastic box" on the 12th picture the filters ?

Maybe, but there were no plastic boxes to be found. I followed the wiring to where it went to the front and nothing.

So what I found was OPION 3!! The cheap bugger that bought the car originally in 2004 had not specified the subs!! The apes that had trashed the side panels, had tried to remove the rear seat but failed. Did not know about the NOTE: 13mm nuts NOT 12mm nuts (I had only taken 12mm sockets in with me to save taking the full socket set in). Everyone had to negotiate wet uneven packed ice and snow to get to where they had to get to. Naturally the C70 was in row 27 of 29 at the far end which is about a 800m walk!

Anyway, fortunately the nice chap working on the car beside me loaned me the 13mm socket. Nuts out, seat backs raised, headrests removed and back rest out. Annnndddd...............NO SUBS!! Just a thin foam sheet stuck over the holes.

Argghhh~!!

Oh well at least no more windshield chips or broken phone screen on this visit!

Hard to believe someone spec's the HPT motor but not the subs.

I think the reason Volvo may have changed the position of the subs could have been the ROPS system (Roll over Protection System) which is right behind the read headrests. That would have made room for the subs pretty small so maybe that is why they changed were they are fitted? Was there always a ROPS system in the verts?

There are some differences between the hardtops and convertibles.

Good catch! I missed the pictures on the 2nd link were from a coupe not a convertible! That may explain the variation in location. In the coupe you don't have all the convertible top stuff to store when down taking up space at the back.
