Continued from previous post.......... Here we are a week later and my local Australian auto store used my VIN Chassis number to track down some after market parts. They arrived today and Im very happy to say that they fit very well and click into the distributor cap the required three distinct clicks.
Now for the weird part....the whole time I was ordering leads to fit a B5252S motor as thats whats on my timing cover, even the biggest Volvo service centre in Victoria gauranteed that Bougicord 405 series F class would fit but they didnt, so here is a possible scenario that may be the problem........ prior to my ownership the car had been smashed on the drivers side ( in Australia that is the RH side facing forward ), what if the timing belt cover got smashed up so the repairer replaced it with a cover that was from a B5252S motor but my motor was a B5254F or a B5234 etc , so now i buy the car as an unknowing patsie and when I need parts I order off the timing belt cover number but that is just a cover from another motor? problem right?
Is that even possible ? gurus please respond.
Anyway I bought Eagle leads made in Australia for $200 Aud.
On the box label it clearly states TO SUIT B5254F, B5234FT,B5254 2.3 -2.4 Fl Year 1992. (mine is a 1994)
No way would a Bougicord F class lead fit my distributor, yet the service manager at volvo swore to me he has 3 850s all running F class leads. So Im thinking that the above scenario may be a possible as to why F class wont fit my distributor.
How can I tell the real identity of my motor ( 10 or 20 valve etc)?
If any one has any ideas please share them with me.
Cheers Buster

Sure, that is possible.
The best way to clear this up is indeed with the serial number, once you have that there is no guesswork. It can be difficult to get a good visual, but the serial number is also stamped into the engine block, visible from the timing cover side of the engine:
