@ MrAl, Yes I have my own lift, I built the garage in 2008 nd had planning permission for a pit, but when I excavated the hole it filled with water due to the height of the water table, so I filled it in and installed a lift...

Old filter removed this morning and left to drain again for another hour, new filter primed and fitted, sump plug refitted with new washer, 5.3 litres of Castrol 10W-40 A3/B4 poured into the engine, checked for leaks and sump cover refitted, service light reset and we're ready for another summer, bring on the sunshine

Wow, pretty amazing setup you have there.
Do Volvos float? I'll drive my car over there to work on it also (ha ha).
Actually that might not do me much good because i hate to have to stand under those things. One of the garages near here that did an oil change for my Volvo one time has one similar, and when the oil was being changed i stood clear of it.
That's amazing though that you have one at home. I guess if i had one i would end up using it too.
Back when i had a garage i installed a manual hoist so i could do an engine rebuild, 390 cu in Pontiac.

My garage was originally an open carport, so a barely reinforced thin slab that can't take the loads of a 2-post lift, then a ceiling that would crush the top of the car at every oil change..... I'll live with my jack stands.

Drove the 850 to church today. Recalled a funny that happened yesterday. The new car wash I take my vehicles to now, has nice self service vacuums, and compressed air (for blowing dirt out of crevices). I was able to get the 1/4 cookie out of the car that I dropped in between the center console and seat... like 6 months ago! I just couldn't reach it, and it bothered me since I never got to finish eating the cookie! No, I didn't finish eating it!

Thankfully, mice never got in the car, while it was sitting.

My garage is full of stuff... parts, and tools, and yard equipment. No room for a car. The floor is also quite cracked. I actually had termites come through a crack and eat a cardboard box which I thought was interesting since this isn't the south.

I've taken to using plastic ramps if I need to get under a vehicle and don't need the wheels off. The plastic ramps don't seem to push on the concrete like the old steel ones tend to do.

I’ve got plastic Ramps and I really have to decide what’s a reasonable end of life for them. Unlike metal , they will fail suddenly without signs of polymer fatigue.

I'm trying to find the best deal on a 2 post lift for my shop right now. I've needed one for a while, but I think it's finally time to pull the trigger. I've been eyeing an Atlas BP8000 or 9KBP.

When I built my garage the plan was to build a pit into the floor, however once I excavated the hole for the pit it soon filled with water which indicated I was below the water table level so I backfilled the pit and spoke to my architect. After a bit of head sctatching we decided I could fit a lift once the build was completed (plans were already approved and changing them mid way through would be a major headache and hold the build up for months). This meant fitting extra roof trusses in the roof space where I intended cutting into for the extra height. I fitted extra trusses and once the build completed and passes by planning I went to work bolting in extra timbers that would allow me to remove the bottom stings from the trusses. A tense nerve racking time was had in the roof space with saw in hand cutting my trusses waiting for the roof to crash to the ground. It's been like that now for 12 years and no problems.

I'd think they'd last a very long time. Mine are probably 15 years old now. They're not hollow, but gusseted on the inside. If they were to let go, I'd expect that to happen as I was trying to drive up them. I did have a very old pair of riding boots (motorcycle) that crumbled with handling after having sat for a very long time.
