Oh, I'm not complaining. I was just surprised the box was so big given my cost, and the cost of shipping.

It'll be interesting to see how well it fits.

I'm not really looking forward to drilling holes, though. I'm also hoping to use plastic retainers instead of screws.

I also need to buy the front guard.

Agreed.
In my part of the world, I want as much air flowing around as possible, dust be damned.
Do you leave off the air guide too, or run it with one?

I was always told by Volvo to make sure the air-guide was fitted.

No air guide. Have not had any issues running without one. Plus I like being able to reach up behind the left ( drivers ) side headlight and trip the hood latch if need be. If I ever happen to lose my key, I can pop the hood, and retrieve an extra key hidden in the engine compartment.

Maybe due to a colder climate. This car was originally purchased in the desert. 115* + not really uncommon anymore.
I doubt you'll need yours before too long, with things going the way they are.

Doesn't the air guide help direct air through the radiator instead of around it?

I always thought it was just to prevent road debris, water, etc from getting into the engine compartment. I don't see how it could help air getting through the radiator with it being mounted below and behind the rad. I'd think if anything, not having it would pull air through better, as the air passing under the car would cause some draw.

But it IS called an " air guide ", so .........

I would need to look at the 850 again to confirm it is the same as the V/S/C 70's. The air guide catches additional air and pushes it up and through the radiator making it more efficient. If you look at it on a car you will see what I am talking about. Not having it your radiator misses about 40% of the air it would see with the air guide fitted.

Yeah I'll have to see one fitted. The more I thought about it, I wondered if " air guide " was meant in terms of directing air for better fuel economy. I can see how having it under there would smooth out the flow under the car, and help mpg. Now if I had one, we could do a few tests and watch the temp by degree under similar conditions.
