82 240 GL fuel pump

Why do you want to remove it?
There is an inspection hatch under the mat in the luggage area. Remove this and you will have access to the top of the fuel tank. The pump is attached to the fuel gauge sender unit.
Disconnect the battery negative lead, unplug the wires from the sender unit and undo the retaining ring on the sender unit. Lift the unit from the tank.
If you are replacing the pump then you must replace the sock filter on it. Replacement is the reverse of taking it out but remember to renew the gasket.
