FCP Euro Lifetime Replacement Guarantee Update

Post by smacknab »

Hey Everyone,

I searched the forum to see if anyone had already posted this but didn't see anything around the time it was posted. I just had to lifetime guarantee some tie rods and the return came back as store credit, not a refund as before. I spoke to a rep and they let me know they updated their policy in October. Not really a problem, it does change the math a bit i think, but still the best deal for volvo parts IMO. Heres the full response i got when asking about the store credit:

"Thanks for contacting FCP Euro!

I was happy to look into this for you. I do apologize as we have recently updated our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee policy and the changes can be seen below. We now refund in customer credit only, for the original order, not the replacement. The customer is now responsible for the price difference. Please see the full blog post about this change here:"

It was never a new part. It was a refund of the original price after you purchased a replacement part and returned the old one.

The store credit should still mostly balance out if you're a regular customer.

I do like FCP, but their prices are now higher than I pay in Canada for OE parts from the dealer. On aftermarket parts we have a couple of sellers here that are also quite competitive. The advantage for me is that at a certain order value shipping is often free withing Canada.

When the exchange rate was 1:1 years ago and before shipping became stupid expensive, I bought all my stuff from FCP and Tasca. Now it is too expensive as we have the higher prices in the first place (mostly) along with high shipping costs and border charges and tax. Then for the warranty we have to ship the stuff back which just does not make sense to the price. Often all the shipping and charges are more than the part price! So the 'free' warranty has little value any more. Plus, as I do such a low annual mileage now I hope to mot need to replace most parts again!!

Thanks for posting this. Sounds like we'll have to feed some cash into the system before we can utilize it. Could there eventually be a problem where your relationship with FCP ends with you leaving credit in their system?

Are these steps correct?
1. Buy oil for the first time with cash.
2. Use the oil until it's used up.
3. Buy oil for the second time with cash.
4. Change your oil. Return the used oil to FCP.
5. Receive store credit for the first purchase.
6. Use the oil until it's used up.
7. Buy oil for the third time with store credit from the first order.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 paying essentially no more cash.

For me, replace "oil" with "brake calipers". A much more expensive proposition.

This new warranty seems tricky to use for expensive parts. It would be best to first return the failed part to get credit, then use that credit to offset the cost of a replacement part. However, the warranty requires purchasing the new part first, and fixing the car in the timely fashion requires having the new part on hand before removing and returning the old part. The new warranty leaves the high price of that part as credit which might take time to use up. This makes the warranty value a much longer term play than before.
