This MB is awesome! I hope MB gave a tip of the hat to Nissan's Pulsar NX.

The Variable Research Car, or VRC, made its debut at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. Its main gimmick was its interchangeable bodywork that allowed the concept vehicle to be configured in one of four body styles, including a sedan, pickup truck, convertible, and wagon. The base vehicle was a compact two-door that could accept different top-mounted carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) superstructures, which could include a roof, side panels, and a rear section (depending on the configuration, of course). Mercedes claimed swapping roofs could be accomplished in just 15 minutes.

Reality check. With this concept, you would need a second garage stall (or two) for your alternate body parts. Also, a crew gathered to swap body parts.
I will stay with my mixed fleet plan.

I think my wife coined a new phrase today, when she asked if we are going to do something about that " fendermoss".

This a trailer that my father in law built about 50 years ago, and we kind of inherited it already many years ago. He was a carpenter so his material of choice to build anything was wood.
I keep fixing things on it and put on new wheels, lights and harness, reinforcing the frame, new tongue coupler and so on. Perhaps I should do the fenders next?
I hooked it up today to haul wood chips.

As a woodworker, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. 3D patina is very hard to pull off. :)
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

RE: patina fenders

There is nothing wrong with those fenders. You...could....find some nice marine mahogany and apply 10 or 15 coats of spar varnish.....

I like the idea, but will stick with pressure treated plywood for now. Time is running out, one of the panels is just about to fall off, and I don't want to risk possible injury to fellow motorists.

Many years ago I borrowed a small trailer with fenders cut from old tire treads. They never rusted, rotted, dented, or grew moss.
