Oil, Filter, and ATF Replacement 1988 Volvo 765 TIC

Post by lummert »

I just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

I recently changed the oil and filter on my B230FT. I used a filter for Volvo 240 Series 2.4 Ltr Diesel and I mixed 3 qts. of Castrol Syntec 5W-40 and 2 qts. Shell Rotella T Syntetic 5W-40 oil in a 5 qt oil bottle. It took 4.75 qts. of mixed oil with the longer filter. That is .75 qt. more tham the stock filter.

I also drained the trans fluid from the trans pan by removing the drain plug. After draining the fluid I put in 2 qts. new fluid and installed a short piece of trans cooler line in place of the top trans cooler line, then added 5 ft. of 5/16 in. clear vinyl tubing into a 1 gal. clear jug that I had marked at 1 qt levels. I started the engine and only pumped out 1 qt. of fluid when bubbles started flowing through the tubing. I stopped the engine and added 1 qt. of new fluid and repeated the process until I had used up 8 qts. of new ATF.
