2007 XC-70 Fuel level gauge malfunction

Post by steve »

My fuel gauge stops working and goes dead. When I turn the ignition off and then restart the car it works for maybe a few minutes or maybe a month but it will suddenly go dead, all the way to empty until I restart the car.

Anyone have this and know of a fix?

If this is on the '07 XC, you are still under warranty. Take it to the dealer and have Volvo deal with it.

I was planning on taking it to the dealer as a last resort if there was not a known quick fix for the problem. Nearest dealer is 120 miles away, hence my inquiry.

A phone call to the dealer this morning yielded no help. I was informed that they would only be able to check to see if it set a code. If it did not set a code, which they said it probably did not, they would not be able to do anything unless the gauge went dead for them while it was in their shop. It probably did not set a code because the computer probably sensed that it was just out of gas which by itself would not set a code.

It is not worth spending a whole days wages taking off work to travel 3 1/2 hours round trip for them to tell me in person that there is nothing they can do.

There was no known service bulletin on this issue.

I was advised to drive it until it failed more consistenly or a pattern to it's failure could be discovered.

Is there any way I could check for a code myself??
