2000 V70XC AWD Rear Spring Replacement

Has anyone replaced the rear springs on a 2000 V70XC AWD? I can't find much information on the procedure besides a dead link to a Sweedspeed forum post.

I tried to find something on this but couldn't. I did replace the springs while replacing the rear sub-frame on my AWD V70R.

You have to remove the rear shock absorber. To do this you need to remove the rear floor from the trunk area. Then there are 2 oval shaped plates, one either side with 2 x 10 or 12mm bolt heads. Remove those and you will see the top of the rear Nivomat struts.

The only way I have been able to remove these are with the Volvo tool. It allows you to hold the center threaded shaft while turning the nut.

You can also do it with a impact driver, but retightening them you have to torque them and that is hard to do without the tool.

With the car off the ground at the rear, you can remove the rear struts. You have to remove the retaining plates which also hole the parking brake cable. That has a 10mm not for the cable. Undoing the other 2 bolts and removing the plate allows the strut to drop out the center of the spring. Now my memory is foggy. I believe you have to undo a couple of bolts to disconnect the outer end of the lower control arm to allow you to remove the spring.

That is all I can remember.

That sounds about right. I had the self leveling Nivomats done on my '99 XC and remember them having a bit*h of a time getting the clearance on reinstallation because they wouldn't drop the rear. They did eventually have success...

I'm thinking I had to disconnect the lower control arm to get the springs out. Sorry it has been about 6 years since I did this last.

I did it the other year, I think I removed the trailing arm from where it attaches to the chassis. I just removed the bracket, 3 bolts per side.
