Ok, what the heck, after working right for a few days, the problem is coming back again, after I replaced the relay/switch with a new one. Usually if I turn the car off and restart it just once, they'll work immediately, though the other day it took about 3 tries, and some flicking the hazard lights on and off a few times, I'm not sure which actually did it. I'm fairly sure the switch isn't catching on anything, like I thought with the old one. So...any other ideas? Could it be the turn signal stalk? Some electrical thing not starting up with the car?

Another thing, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it...the shift lock solenoid works sometimes, and doesn't other times. Sometimes if I press on the brake pedal, it will go right into reverse, and usually (I guess) then the blinkers work...it's very random, it will do it fine for a few tries, and then stop working. Could this have anything to do with it, or are they 2 seperate problems?

Wow, so this has been driving me nuts, having to restart the car 3 or 4 times now before I can get the turn signals to function. Today, I finally realized what the problem is. I turned the key back ever so slightly in the process of turning the car off, and saw in the car in front of me that my running lights turned on, and my dashboard lights lit up and the dinger started. Moved the key back and forth 3 or 4 times, and APPARENTLY this is what's been doing it.
I would have never guessed that the ignition switch was the culprit...

That is a common problem and all sorts of weird things happen. It is relatively cheap and very easy to replace. The hardest part is getting the two small T-15 torx screws out of the steering wheel side of the clamshell cover. It takes a long extension and a small diameter bit holder to do it.I would have never guessed that the ignition switch was the culprit...

My turn signals stopped, but I still have hazards. After reading your post's and searching for the electronic "flasher" that was listed for this car, which I bought and can't find. I think maybe just buying the switch would be best. Funny that a flasher is listed, and you state there isn't one. Is it possible to have the hazards work and the turns not if that relay is the fault? Haynes does not specify path. I think a lever switch in the steering column is toast.

Do you have back up lights? If you've lost both turn signals and back up lights the number 27 fuse is blown. I had the same symptoms, no signals with the hazard lights working and it was a short in the dash wire harness The fuse would blow again as soon as I turned the key to Pos II. The blue wire with the gray stripe feeding the emergency flasher was shorted up under the dash. You can find schematics in the 850 manual available for download at the top of the forum. It's in the system wiring diagrams PDF.
Good luck

Thanks Bob, I think the problem was the signal lever, which had been making that nasty zit/zit sound upon activation. I had found the fuse blown. I replaced both the lever $82 dealer, or $35 at junk yard (go for new) and the fuse and voila. Fuses are always an indicator of a problem, not a condition.

I have a 2000 V70 with a slightly different problem. The hazard flasher and lights work fine but the signal switch does not activate the signal lights nor the flasher.
Any advice please?
