2001 Volvo S80 - 89,500 miles - Out of nowhere a "no oil pressure, pull over asap, stop engine" message appeared. I had no other message or warning prior to this.
I had the car towed to the service dept. at the volvo dealership. They replaced the 0 rings and oil pan and had me pick up the car the next day.
Within 5 miles of picking up my car, the same message appeared. I had it towed once again and they said that no one there understands what's going on and they double checked their repairs and said the barrings are fine.
They said the engine is probably shot and it will cost more to check the engine than to put one in from a junkyard. Please HELP!!!! How can this happen with no warning! Any ideas! PLEASE HELP!!!!

im no expert at this subject, but i would certanly check out the oil trap and pipes which allow the engine to breathe. theses do block and deteriorate which often cause a build up in pressure, blowing the cranckshaft oil seal.
i would suggest renewing, the pipes and oil trap are below the inlet manifold. the inlet manifold has to come off.
also, im new to t6 engine, learned this in the t5 and on the t6 i have noticed underneath at the right hand side back of the engine oil sump there is another black box which i think is also an oil filter, if im correct, then i would also renew this too.
good luck
ps the oil trap is a job which can be done yourself if you are good with tools and have some ratchet spanners, 12mm and 13mm !

I had been experiencing the same problem with my 2001 Volvo S80 with 128,000 miles on it.
The problem started with the oil pressure light coming on when idling. According to the manual, this is normal - as long as the light goes out when giving it a bit of gas. I lived with this for quite a while.
Then two weeks ago the problem got worse.
For the first 10-20 minutes of driving everything was fine - just an occasional low oil pressure light when idling. Then after some higher RPM driving, the oil pressure light would come on more frequently and then it might come on and stay on. I learned that if I turned the engine off and waited a minute, I could restart the engine and the oil pressure light would be off. The car would run fine and if driven gingerly, keeping RPMs to below 2500, I could drive without the light coming back on.
In troubleshooting the problem, I checked the oil level, replaced the oil pressure sender, and did an oil change. No luck.
With the engine running, there were no bubbles on the dip stick.
Even with the oil light on, the engine sounded smooth. Very weird.
My guess was that there was sludge in the oil pan that was getting sucked up when the engine was warm and RPMs were high. With this educated guess, I took the car to Firestone and paid $70 for an oil flush. They emptied the oil, replaced the filter and added a gallon of Kleen-Rite Ultimate Engine Care. They then added 3 quarts of oil because the S80 needs 7 quarts.
They idled the engine for 15 minutes and then revved the engine to 4500 RPM for the last minute or so. They emptied the solution and refilled the oil with a full synthetic and put on a new filter. Instead of the 5W-30 that Volvo recommends I had them put in 5W-40.
Problem Gone!
I only mention the name of Firestone and the product that they used, because it worked for me and this appears to a very common problem. I do not work for Firestone or the company that makes the flush.
While I can't guarantee that this will work for you, it worked for me.
Good luck and please let me know if this works for you.

This makes no sense! Bearings are fine. But engine shot at 89K??? B.S.! you dont mention the manual oil pressure test results? Otherwise how did they know if the engine had a actual low oil pressure issue or a faulty sender? If the oil pan Orings and pan were changed, and a verified low oil pressure situation is verified, than possibly the oil pump could be faulty? I completely don't understand this "costly check" they are talking about since they already checked the bearings? I would have them elaborate on that in the service manager's office.mtg0426 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2008, 17:12 2001 Volvo S80 - 89,500 miles - Out of nowhere a "no oil pressure, pull over asap, stop engine" message appeared. You are in Florida, and if near Tampa, take it to Volvo Of Tampa and request Bernie Spats check your car. He is imho the best Volvo mechanic in the area. If anywhere near Jacksonville, Osteen Volvo is excellent and request Calvin who is the best in this area. I know Burnie has worked there at least 40 years and Calvin up here 30. Either is an excellent choice! June
