This is for my son's 2003 C70. We have had the car for about 7 years and the SRS light has always been on. The person that I bought the car from mentioned it came on after the battery was drained and went dead. Since my son is now out of state I decided to pill the codes to see what the issue might be. The SRS codes that came back (085, 087) indicated a missing signal for left and right SIPS airbags and (090, 093) missing of faulty signal for left and right seat belt buckle.
If the code was just for one side I would assume a bad wire or connection but having the exact codes for both seats for the SIPS only (no front air bags codes) makes me wonder if something is wrong with the module ? I tried to research to see if the SIPS had a separate fuse but it seems that there is only one fuse for the entire SRS system.
I have yet to try to remove the connected under the seat to check for corrosion (after disconnecting the battery of course) but the fact that the signal for both buckles and bags are not being read seems to indicate something else. I would assume that there are two connectors, one for the buckle and one for the side bag, unless they merge somewhere I cannot see.
There doesn't seem to be any indication that the seats have been removed but I cannot be 100% sure. The wear on the belts, seats and buckle seem to be in line for a car of this age. Anyone have any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.

I think the c70 stayed with impact fired side air bags while the S/v70 went electrical in 1999
Check under the power seat switch for a red crash sensor ?

What the previous owner said does not make sense. The issue is if someone plays with the airbag system while the battery is connected it will trip the airbag. The battery going flat is not something I have heard or read about ever happening.
Now, if you assumed the previous owner is legit, then it would probably mean just a reset of the SRS system would clear the codes. If they do not clear then there is probably a genuine issue. Did you check if the car had any airbag recalls still pending?
Neil.

Thanks Neil and Empty Nester.
I will check under the seat again to determine the system on the C70 but I don't recall seeing a red sensor.
I checked with the NHTSA and they have no recalls listed for this year and model (probably because it is past 15 years) but I found a few recalls that have been archived but they pertained to the fuel pump and child seat anchors.
I am a VW guy but had to replace the head on the C70 at 105k miles as the cheap aftermarket coolant pump used when the timing belt was replaced at 81K miles seized and broke the timing belt. The SIPS codes have me stumped though. The fact that both sides have the same code make me wonder if someone did something stupid to trip the SRS codes. I guess I could send in the SRS module to have it cleared and hope that they are old stored codes. This would be less expensive (about $60.00 US) than buying a cloned DICE and maybe worth the chance.
If I get it figured out I will re-post my findings.

When I got my 2000 S70 a few months ago the SRS light was on. Previous owner had a receipt showing that the dealer tech determined it needed a new driver seat belt at $400. I had codes for air bags and seat belts so I sent the airbag module off to be reset (Myairbag_dot_com). It was sent back saying it was defective and they couldn't do anything with it. So I left it out and shorted to ground pin 25 on the airbag module connector to turn off the SRS light until I can get back to it. Kind of nice not having the annoying seat belt reminder dinging. Please keep us posted on how yours turns out.

That purple clip slides up, then the green parts separate to disconnect. They are fiddly

I figured it out. Used needle nose pliers at the opposite end of the purple clip, squeezed the sides of the end piece and that lifts the top catch up so they can slide apart. Using a Youcanic scanner it shows all of the compents to be OK but it won't clear the SRS light. The scanner gives instructions to start the engine, rev to 1500, turn engine off, restart and let idle 20 seconds. That didn't work. I'll give it a week of driving cycles and see if it will clear then. I know the consensous is that only VIDA will clear it but I was assured by Youcanic that their scanner will do it.

To disconnect, I have not doe it that way. On the left hand end in your picture, you can see there is a locating tab on the tops and if you look closely on the sides you can see what looks like an arrow head pointing to the the left. Squeeze hard on both sides and it should lift the plastic over the tab to allow you to slide to off to the left.
