2000 V70R Angle/Bevel gear vent question

Post by scot850 »

A friend help pull an angle/bevel gear unit from a 2000 R in the junkyard. Unbelievable, but the splines seem really good!

Problem is either in the yard or transferring to my car to bring home, the vent valve on the unit got broken. Not the end of the world, but what I am having difficulty finding is a replacement for the valve.

Everything I thing I find shows a small brass fitting that I guess is pressed into the casing and then a rubber valve fits on top of that.

Problem is my angle gear has a plastic threaded valve piece, and using the brass piece won't work unless you are to drill out the threads and push the valve into place?

Anyone know anything about angle gear units and their vagaries? I obviously have to find a solution for this and any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil.

No replies at all on this and even Volvo dealers are not able to find anything. They are suggesting I need to buy the later vent parts and find a way to install them! The parts they are saying to fit are a brass 'neck' which is unthreaded and size/dimensions unknown, the valve portion is a non-issue as if you can fit the brass part yo can fit the valve that is meant for it:

Some solution and the part prices are silly as well!
