Low power, 2001 V70 XC

Post by Japedo »

Hello, I have a 2001 V70 XC 110 miles which seems underpowered. Had it checked out a few days ago and the garage said it is throughing codes in relation to the cam positiont solenoid? and also the catalatic converter? The garage I was visiting believed it was a partial blockage in my cat but I haven't done anything to confirm yet. Check engine light is on.
I live in NB canada but the car spent most of it's life in texas. Ive owned it for a year. Ive replaced the tranny and spark plugs and all the front end components in the past year. Engine is very sludgey.

THanks

Well I borrowed an obd 2 reader today. The codes are

p0422 main catalyst below threshold
p0014 camshaft position sensor actuator B bank 1 timing over advanced
p1237 fuel pump secondary circuit malfunction

Im hopeing this will help with the troubleshooting, We have been driving the car like this all summer but it isn''t half as powerfull as my 850, any input on these codes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Typically the P0422 is caused by intake or exhaust leaks, a bad O2 sensor, or a bad MAF (mass air flow sensor).

Now, the P0014 code is generic and may be too general to conclude anything regarding Volvo troubleshooting...it could be a low temperature reading for a hot car (thermostat should begin to open at 190

MIJ

My temp guage is reading exactly in the middle when vehicle warmed up. I replaced the thermostat last winter when it was blowing cold air. I took a quick look at the hoses in relation to the boost control valve and the wastegate and the intake manifold and they appear ok. Is it possible to test the boost control valve? or shouild i just buy a new one?
I cleared all three codes and haven't had a chance to drive it yet. Im in the midst of a 24hr shift on the ambulance :? But hope to figure a few things out tomorrow, both of my cars are sick!!!!
Thanks so much for the valuable info "a boost control issue is way different the a fuel circuit malfunction" should make things easier.

Certainly the turbo control valve could be your issue. I just replaced mine with a beefier and smoother after-market one and would have had one off of my S70 that would work for you but someone else already wanted it and it was sent out last week. In the meantime, if you want to get something that you can be sure will work, IPD now carries a very nice TCV that I put in both of our vehicles and absolutely love: http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-V70XC70-200 ... -814-4234/
Here is a considerable amount of discussion about it: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=96401

Conversely, some over on V.S. are putting in TCV's from other makers with good results and less expense: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... pic=100231

Of course, you might have pretty good luck actually with one from a pick-n-pull. All of them from '98 up until to the present Volvo's (sans S/V40 and 50's) will work.
