A new acronym as of today. RUD

" Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly "

Courtesy of a Space X engineer regarding today's rocket explosion.

I can see using this ......

I had an automatic transmission in a Mazda 323 RUD on me after a spirited drive over 20 years ago.

I'm always good about making sure I have everything I need when I go to the DMV, but it's always funny (yet I still feel bad for them) when people are told they need to get whatever document and come back... after wasting half an hour in line.

When I took my son to get his license at 16 (long ago), we walked in and there was no line, ah ha. There were 5 women standing behind the counter with no one to wait on. We walked right up and they said "Do you have an appointment?"

We said, uhh, no, looks like you have space.

"No, you have to have an appointment."

Can we make one right now?

"No, you have to do it online."

We had no phones and so we drove home, signed in, and made an appointment.
We showed up again at our assigned time, started the process, and there was a sign saying "Cash Only."

Oklahoma has independent tag agents who get a fee for processing tags, licenses and title transfers. We have two agents in our small city, so there is some competition. They often have a short line, but have 2 or 3 clerks available. Yesterday, I walked in and no one was waiting ahead of me. I got my tag for a non operating vehicle (Black tag) in just a few minutes. Oklahoma has a steep fee to retag a vehicle that has not had a tag for several years. The better solution for vehicles you are not driving is to not have insurance on the vehicle and then get a 'Black Tag' which does not let you drive the vehicle.
There was a little humor as well. The clerks in both offices seem to be all family. Yesterday, the manager was telling another agent (her mother?) not to hang up on someone she did not want to talk with unless she was on her own cell phone. The manager did not want the call to be traced back to the agency.
