Alloy rims

Post by 5rivers »

Greetings all,

I am thinking about switching the 15" alloy rims on my '98 V70 T5 to 16" rims. I know there was a listing that abscate posted a while back that showed all the alloy rims available for Volvos, but I can't seem to find the link. Can someone direct me to the correct link?

Many thanks!

Main thing to consider is the rim /tire width yo want to fit. All P80 rims should fit. Only issue is when you go too wide on the tire, or you are running big brakes (302mm) brackets where you need 16" or larger rims.

P80's have a 43mm inset offset. P2's can be 43 or 49mm. They both have the same lugnut pitch ( 5 x 108mm), and the same center bore (I can never remember but I think it is 65.1mm. P3 and P1 models have 63.5mm if I recall.

For a FWD car the things to watch are:

1) Top and rear of front tire relative to the front strut and the lower spring seat. Also rubbing of the rim on the inner fender liner on full turns.

2) Rear wheels, watch for the parking brake cable rubbing on the rear of the tire.

If you stick to standard spec tire dimensions you have a wide variety of widths available and not needing spacers. 15" tire sizes appear to becoming harder to find from good tire manufacturers, so check availability of 16" tires from brands you prefer. Remember in 16" Volvo changed the sped of the sidewall from 50 to 55 on the 205/55/16 tire due to complaints of sidewall damage on potholes.

Final thing is to get the rims checked for bends on the inner edges. The larger the rim diameter, the smaller the sidewall, so more impact is passed to the inner edge of the rims. Have the rims spun up on a tire machine before fitting a tire to look for issues.

Good Luck!

Neil.
