hi all well its proper pissing down now and car work outdoors is halted ,i did manage a little work this morning got the clutch slave cylinder back on and then had to hunt out a bolt from my box of "might be useful one day" nuts and bolts and crap for a bolt to replace a missing one from the shaped steel plate that the topmost rear engine mount bolts too seems to once have had 2 big bolts at the bottom and a spacer mine has only 1 and an empty hole!this also explains why the little bar that bolts under the spark plug cover was broken in two when i got the car,may also explain the broken engine mount i guess as it doesnt appear to be rotten.
a bit of good luck was the first bolt i picked from the odd box was a near perfect match to the missing one i found a spacer and a washer all in a3 stainless steel and have it bolted up right now and awaiting delivery of the engine mount and some hopefully decent cv boots gkn this time, never fit shaftec again, not even 6 weeks old since fitting and visible cracks is beyond sense and the shop refuse to change there stock,so i stop shopping there.
it seems if your in the uk dealers for older volvos do not exist. only choice is from germany, partsmonster.com and so far all there bits seem pretty good makes, bored now and itching to get it done! herbal meds day i reckon :D

Looking on-line, it looks like there are several places in the UK claiming to sell Volvo parts. Maybe they don't cater for the older cars? There used to be a parts supplier their I have bought from but can't now recall their name.

hi neil there are quite a few uk online parts sellers that claim to do oe spec aftermarket spares but none know anything about what there selling,i am not sure where they source parts from but nearly all i have used end up sending gear made for left hand drive vehicles and of no use for rhd,i have a set of crystal headlamps from a uk seller both are made for lhd and beam deflectors have been made illegal here so there useless and trying to get a return and refund is beyond a joke, skandix are ok but most of what i needed was nla or out of stock.
so far partsmonster.com have had most bits and known makes atleast febi bilstein engine mount and even there flametrap fits, being the early 94 makes it tricky as said uk sellers have no clue about what there selling or care to if or not it works for more than 5 minutes.
i spent years in the spares trade in the 80s so knew the good and bad makes but so much has changed with chinese stuff dominant in the market who know who truly makes what?
i tell you what makes me feel better about it is seeing the quotes from whocanfixmycar.com for doing the clutch anything from
£600-800 and all have quoted for the wrong clutch kit also they sneeky and supply recon clutch instead of new but charge as if new also id not trust the work of some young kid on my car, call me old fashioned because i am!
i remade the little vacuum elbows that are no longer available in uk from amalgamating tape heat proof resistant to oil and saved buying from usa at £15 each plus £14 postage.
going to have a go at the reluctor ring change tomorrow i reckon the drivers side one was the fault as its split and has a chunk missing through rust!take care and stay well.herbal meds time again wooohoooo!

Heat the ring in the oven before trying to fit it. Even a bit of heat will make it a lot easier to get on without much pounding!

I hear you on the parts front in terms of knowledge and quality of parts.

hi neil im still waiting for the rings to come but did get the engine mounting done, eventually horrid neck pain and the damn thing is too awkward from the top,i did try and thought id sorted it then realised the last bolt did not line up,only to notice the thing had turned around and had to undo it,turn the bracket and do it all up again!question on the mounting is a wire which was hooked on am i meant to remove it? the old one was hooked on 1 side still?.
ive had to order a box of stainless screws and bits to properly re attach the plastic under the wings but not silly rivets you have to drill out next time also going to do some rust prevention under there.
i cant wait to just have it done and working again but the pain it causes makes me wonder why the hell i do it,must be meds time im getting grumpy   take care

If you are talking about the wire around the mount, it should be attached on both sides. It is a security wire should the rubber mount fail the engine won't shift. It should stay in place.

Stainless self tapper bolts are the way to go. Those studs are useless as they rust until the diameter no longer holds the plastic nuts in place.
Cut the remainder off and drill a hole and use a self tapping bolt and stainless washer and it should be good for years.

My wife says I am grumpy al the time, it just varies in the amount! :o

hi all well today the rest of my bits turned up from germany and i got the reluctor rings fitted and driveshafts all fitted up,filled the gearbox and after fitting a bunch of new hose clips and a clean and refit of the induction system breathers and the new flametrap the old girl fired up well and it feels like a clutch and have gears, had an odd thing like an airlock or something and id only managed to get 2 ltrs of antifreeze and a ltr or so of 50-50 antifreeze to water and it was full to the top,i know the entire system was emptied,i was a bit nervous but kept it running without the cap and squeezing the various hoses managed a good burp and some 1.5 ltrs more and again full so ran it till the fan cut in and out again with the cap on then topped it up and ran again but this time the fan came on straight away and ran till i turned the ignition off, left it at that for today and will see how it looks in the morning.
also i have now got an srs warning light up in red which stayed on after car is started,so far no abs light though! the rings where both broken rusted right through so i guess and hope they caused the intermitent abs light. any idea what to look at re the srs light would be great, cheers all. :)
