Good job so far, it looks like you are planning on driving this car for a long time and keeping it properly serviceable, On that note I would advocate grabbing spares from the auto wreckers and building an inventory of hard parts as these cars are getting pretty rare and don't show up very often nor do they stay too long at the junkyard. Starters and alternators are good things to have spares of, although you could probably just get an OEM rebuild kit with brushes and bearings and bushings and keep it on the shelf. For your AWD, if it still works, you might want to get a good used propshaft and rebuild the CV's and have it ready to go, also a good used bevel gear if you can find one. Soft parts like headlights and foglights.......I seem to smash a lot of them, seatskins from passenger side seats. Interior parts that are in better shape than yours. I would suggest that your Haldex pump may be on borrowed time but that's a $300 part so wait till it fails. CV shafts are usually less than $40 at the wreckers for OEM GKN originals. I got stuck without spares last year and had to buy new ones at about $800 CDN.
You don't see these P2's on the road much anymore and by association they don't show up in the junkyard very frequently.

Wow, that's a lot of work. She probably drives like new today.

I saw you replaced the plugs and coils. Have you replaced or refurbished the fuel injectors? Bosch makes them and they last pretty long. My '07 XC70 is approaching 190k miles and still has the original injectors. I cleaned and refurbished them with kits twice. After removing the O-rings, filter, and pintle cap I let them soak in a glass of seafoam for 24 hours. First refurbishment was at 121k miles. Second I did last summer at 183k miles. The materials that came with the kit still looked fine 62k miles down the road.

Here is the kit I used:

Being overseas the shipment took 2 weeks.

I never would have imagined cleaning my own injectors. Wow, that's fascinating... now I have to try it. :-D

I wouldn't say she drives like new, but we're working on it. Basically, I'm that weirdo who's attached to P2 and needs to make this one count since it's in great cosmetic condition. I set out this last time around to find my "keeper '07 for a decade or so."

I saw a few with lower mileage, but none with not a single crack or stain or scratch anywhere inside or outside. One-owner car, it had been given to a dainty young girl when she went off to college and she drove very firmly but sensibly (you'd have to have met her to really see the personality type, but it explains everything). Now years later as an adult, she figured it was time to move on and was pleased when she heard I planned to get a lot more from it before I ultimately give up someday and get a P3 (once everyone else is long electric no doubt).

I just love working on the P2 platform. Everything is so easy to to do with just a toolbox and a Saturday afternoon!

Any cleaner in can, piece of hose, source of 12V (add a bulb to circuit if running off a battery), wires.

Do not replace good OE parts with “new junk” lifetime warranty parts. You won’t get more reliable running, just more trips to the parts store.

Get your OE rebuilt by a good local auto electric shop to get another 200k out of it.

Even the Bosch reman line has fallen prey to the bottom line , cheapest junk available with a long warranty to sucker in the sheep

So it's been a moment, but returning to this thread to say that I replaced my alternator after all—with a reman unit remanufactured by Bosch, which didn't cost all that much more than the aftermarket new units. But the Bosch unit comes in a nice Bosch box and packaging, with the correct clutch pulley (most of the aftermarket don't have this), and two years of free roadside assistance.

Turns out Amazon results bury the Bosch store somewhere in their infinite pile of pages. But by going to Bosch's own website and doing a search for my car, I got a Bosch part number. When I plugged *that* into Amazon, voila, the Bosch store came up and the Bosch genuine reman part, too.

So if anyone's looking, don't spend your $$ on an aftermarket new unit or a no-name reman from eBay when you can buy a Bosch reman with a Bosch warranty and all the right bits and pieces for about the same price with a little hunting. And yes, they do have a store on Amazon if you have a part # to search for.

Have the old one saved (still in remarkably good condition for 200k+ miles, even the clutch pulley is still working) and will have a local alt shop rebuild it as a spare.

Heater core is next, since they're cheap and not too hard. :-D
