And they got paid to show that on television? I’d think there are some liability issues there.

Taking the turbo/exhaust manifold on the 940 today to replace a failing gasket, what a massive pain !
Really feels like the turbo was added by some drunk engineer on a friday afternoon, everything is in the way of everything

working on a FWD whiteblock is a breeze compared to that

I just hate having to dismantle four systems just to get to the fifth system.

Because...............!

Went to 2 of the local junkyards yesterday. Originally one to return the 'spare' trunk spoiler. Decided the paint was pretty bad with lots of pealing clear. Kept the mounting brackets though! As it was in-store only refund, I used it to pay for 4 door speakers as I don't have any spares now. Still came away with a $5 credit!

Then went to PnP. They have a long weekend (Fri-Mon) 50% Labor day sale. I had planned to return one of the 2 sets of wagon roof trim strips as one is bent. Then remembered that I didn't pull the front sections from the roof rails and down the sides of the windshield as I didn't know how to at that time. So I don't have the front sections, but I can now cut the pair I was going to return to fill that void.

That means I have a full set of roof rails and all the clips, screws, screw covers (NLA) as well as the screw sealing strips. Not sure why, although I think I originally decided to fit them to the R but decided to keep the car standard.

In the end I pulled 3/4 door speakers and one remaining dash speaker (On rear door was jammed shut) as well as an almost mint antenna ring and a wood center section dash radio/ECC surround for a friend. Meant pulling another dash, but I'm getting the time down rapidly! A small impact driver makes a huge help! So how much? Well I also just got in a $20 voucher from PnP this week so in all it cost me about $3.20 CDN!!

Now just have to test the speakers and clean them..................!

Neil.

Couldnt get to one manifold nut because the turbo is in the way
Couldnt get the turbo off the manifold because turbo cold side is in the way of the damaged bolt

Had to split the turbo (1/8th of a turn as a time) to access the hot side bolts
And now I still cant take the manifold off because the oil cooler is in the way of the last bolt, that is too rusty to be taken off with a spanner :?

Hello,

That reminds me of when I had to keep taking the air box out so I could get to other things like the distributor cap and wires.
I considered it a lot of work just to get to other things, but eventually I got used to it as I had to do it so many times.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Yeah that manifold may be the one thing that is a serious pain on the RWD cars. I had a hell of a time with that when I pulled one in the yard a few years ago. Everything else is way easier than FWD lol.

ZionXIX wrote: 29 Aug 2023, 22:07 Abscate, when installing the cams and cam cover, do you try and seat the cam seals during assembly or leave them loose and tap them in after the cover is bolted down?
I cheat a bit here, and install the seals on the VVT from the rear end of the cam, carefully seat it into the lower cam cover half after getting it square. I dress the lower half of the seal area with Permatex aviation gasket sealer to firm it up. I’ve done this on three VVT heads without leaks. That saves the locking of the cams and having to crack that nasty tight torx screw on the cam which is tough off car
I actually had another question here. When you place the cams on the cylinder head, how do you know the proper orientation? Do you just eye ball the back side notches? I thought a cam locking tool was necessary when sett8ng time from scratch. Also do the cam shaft seat all the way down before tightening the cam cover bolts?
